Every year World Intellectual Property Day is celebrated on April 26 to 'raise awareness of how patents, trademarks, design, and copyright impact on daily life.' The event for the first time was celebrated in 2000 by the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) which is the global forum for IP (Intellectual Property) policies, services, information & cooperation and is an agency of the United Nations.

The aim of the World Intellectual Property Day is to increase the general understanding of Intellectual Property (IP). Moreover, World IP Day has offered a unique opportunity each year to join with others around the globe which considers how IP contributes to the flourishing of music and the arts. Also gives shape to our world.

This covers a variety of events and activities worldwide. It aims to increase people’s awareness and understanding of intellectual property (IP). World Intellectual Property Day is also identified as World IP Day. On April 26, 1970, the Convention Establishing the World Intellectual Property Organization entered into force. The theme for the World Intellectual Property Day 2020 is Innovate for a Green Future.

To promote World IP Day some local copyright and intellectual offices have an open day on or around April 26. Some educational establishments also choose World IP Day as a time to celebrate the works of a notable artist, inventor, designer, or entrepreneur, and link discussions with the important role of intellectual property.
