Every year on November 10, World Science Day For Peace & Development is celebrated across the world to highlight the consequential role of science in society. The day also aims at raising awareness among the citizens of developments in science.

It also highlights the role played by scientists in expanding the perception of the Earth, a remarkable planet we call home, while at the same time making society more sustainable.

The objective of the day is to promote national and international harmony for collaborative efforts in science among countries; to reinforce the public awareness regarding the role of science for a sustainable society; to renew the commitments among countries to benefit society, and to highlight the challenges faced by while supporting scientific ventures.

The first time the day was celebrated on November 10, 2002, under the aegis of UNESCO involving many governmental, non-governmental and intergovernmental organizations, Science & Research Institutions, UNESCO National Commissions, Professional Associations, School Science Teachers and Schools, among others.

The theme for the World Science Day For Peace & Development 2020 is "Science for and with Society in dealing with the global pandemic".

UNESCO has also issued a #ScienceDay for the interested participants to join the conversation.
