World hepatitis day is a world-level awareness campaign launched as a global health campaign by the World Health Organisation to eliminate the presence of the disease in the world. World hepatitis Alliance took place in 2007, and the first community-led World Hepatitis Day was celebrated in 2008.

Every day, a lot of people due to hepatitis-related illnesses. Millions of people live around us with viral hepatitis disease, and half are unaware of the situation. It is mandatory to find out undiagnosed and link them to care, or millions of people will continue to suffer, and millions of lives will be lost. Many diseases are not diagnosed and affect people in diverse methods, and hepatitis disease is one of them.



What is Hepatitis?



What is hepatitis disease? What are the symptoms of the disease, and how is it caused? The hepatitis virus has five main strains- A, B, C, D, and E. According to World Health Organization (WHO), the combination of hepatitis B and C gives rise to more than 1,100,000 hepatitis deaths. Around 9,400,00 people are acquiring treatment for chronic hepatitis C virus infection. Hepatitis is an inflammatory disorder of the liver caused due to viral infection. Other causes are also responsible, such as autoimmune hepatitis, which upshots due to the secondary results of drugs, alcohol, medications, and toxins. Autoimmune infection arises when the body produces antibodies against your liver tissue or due to some toxic substance like drug or alcohol. Our liver is located in the upper right spot of the abdomen and performs many essential functions that influence metabolism throughout the body.

World hepatitis day is a world-level awareness campaign launched as a global health campaign by the World Health Organisation to eliminate the presence of the disease in the world. World hepatitis Alliance took place in 2007, and the first community-led World Hepatitis Day was celebrated in 2008. In May 2010, the assumption of the first resolution on viral Hepatitis took place. In order to give respect and honor to the Nobel Laureate, Baruch Samuel Blumberg, 28 July was chosen as World Hepatitis Day because 28 July is his birthday. He was the one who discovered the hepatitis B virus (HBV) and and invented a vaccine for the virus and diagnostic test.

The hepatitis virus has five main strains- A, B, C, D, and E. The combination of hepatitis B and C gives rise to chronic hepatitis C virus infection in hundreds of millions of people and is the most ordinary reason for cancer and cirrhosis. Hepatitis E and A are majorly caused due to ingestion of contaminated water or food. Hepatitis B, C, and D may also induce contact with infected body fluids. Modes of transmission of these viruses include invasive medical procedures using contaminated equipment, contaminated blood, or blood products. Hepatitis B can also be transmitted from mother to baby at birth, from any family member, and even by sexual contact.

World Hepatitis Day is celebrated to-




  • Create awareness among the people of the early diagnosis, treatment, screening control, prevention, and vaccine for Hepatitis A and B.

  • Raise awareness among the people about the types of hepatitis disease.

  • Offer an opportunity to focus together on the elimination of the disease.

  • Make people aware of the treatment and care for people suffering from the disease and implement new training methods and several skilled medical professionals to develop quality care.

  • Encourage health and government organizations to involve actively in the event to discover new strategies against the disease.
