Mountain climbing is one of the most dangerous, adventurous, and exciting outdoor activities that have become progressively popular, especially in India. In India, we celebrate National Mountain Climbing Day on August 1 to honor two friend mountaineers, Bobby Mathews and his friend Josh Madigan- who successfully climbed the top of the Adirondack Mountains in New York. In 2015, on this day, they two triumphed at the final peak- Whiteface Mountain.

Mountain climbing is a compound type of exercise in which we put together all the muscles in the body, and it is almost a full-body workout. It is not only fun and exciting but also helps a lot in maintaining good physical health. The beautiful mountains you see around refresh your mind and improve mental health. Mountains are silent and peaceful and bring peace to your mind and thoughts.

Mountain climbing is an exciting and adventurous hobby for many. Some of the renowned Indian mountaineers include Krushnaa Patil, the first youngest Indian woman to climb Mount Everest, and Arjun Vajpai, the youngest Indian to conquer Lhotse and summit Manaslu. Arunima Sinha was the world's first amputee to reach the top of Mountain Everest, Bechendri Pal, the first Indian woman to climb Mountain Everest and Narendra Kumar, a mountaineer from the Indian Army.

We see mountains as a popular travel destination because they have natural greenery, fascinating landscapes, and natural beauty created by God. But apart from being a destination, mountains hold a major geographical significance as mountains are the water towers of this world that offer 60 to 80 percent of all freshwater resources to the planet.

Also, around half of the population of this world depends on the mountain and its ecosystem services to survive. Mountains not only provide water but also offers clean energy, fresh air, and food. Climbing mountains and reaching the top of them is an overwhelming experience and is no less than a battle that you fight with yourself at every step. In the end, the climb does not feel like a struggle but an exciting adventure, and the view you get exposed to through that peak feels rewarding.
