English universities have been announced to grant the same fee status as domestic students to Ukrainian refugees.
Universities Minister Michelle Donelan, in a notice to Higher Education institutions, announced that the government is developing approaches to HE student support, tuition fee caps, and home fee status. The announcement has been made for the Ukrainian refugees who had been granted leave to stay in the United Kingdom.
This means that the English institutions will not charge more than £9,250 a year from Ukrainian undergraduates, instead of international fees which are greater. The Ukrainian students will also have access to student support e.g. loans.
Ms Donelan said, "Access to student support is crucial in enabling refugees to attend education to improve their skills and enhance the ability of Ukrainians to contribute to the UK, or to the rebuilding of their home country".
She also added that the Ukrainian refugees who have been shortlisted to stay under one of the Home Office schemes in the UK will also not require to fulfill a 03-year residency exam for student support.
