Himachal Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukku has proposed Rs 8,828 crore for the education sector to improve the education quality and provide better facilities.

The Chief Minister said that several surveys indicate a weakening of learning, reading, and writing abilities, especially after the Covid pandemic- his government is committed to strengthening the education system and will prepare a comprehensive work plan to improve the situation.

Sukhwinder added that the focus would be on quality and quantitative improvement of the education system while executing the NEP 2020 in the state to improve the learning outcomes. He said the government would accelerate the procedure for filling up vacant posts of teachers in educational institutions.

Chief Minister Sukhu stated that his government believes in delivering better facilities regarding adequate teachers, good buildings, libraries, lab facilities, and sports grounds in operating schools instead of only opening new schools or elevating existing schools. He said that in 2021-2022, only one teacher was available in 3,148 schools each the state which was 30% of the total schools. It was noticed that very few students were registered in many recently opened institutes, and it was impossible to deliver quality education to them. Considerable changes are needed to provide the best education to the children of the state.

Himachal Pradesh CM also announced the opening of one Rajiv Gandhi Government Model Day-Boarding School in every assembly constituency of Himachal. He said these schools would have classes beginning from pre-primary to XII standard with indoor and outdoor sports facilities. A swimming pool will also be provided where water is available in adequate quantity. Rs 300 crore will be acquired on the newly announced scheme in a phased manner.

To enable the youth to prepare for different competitive exams, he announced building a library with access to the National Digital Library and other vital books in those blocks of the state where libraries or reading rooms are not available.

He said that the Himachal Pradesh government would expand vocational education in schools, various syllabi, and curricula of educational institutions would be examined, and the latest market demand-based vocational courses would be launched.

To facilitate students' participation in sports, he announced to increase in the diet money of sports players living in sports hostels from Rs 120 per day to Rs 240 per day.
