Every year on 14 September, Hindi Diwas is celebrated across the country to promote the Hindi language and its usage. Being the first language of around 500 million people makes it one of the extensively used language in the world.

The day is celebrated to observe the adoption of the Hindi language in the Devnagari script and the first time the day was celebrated in 1949. Due to the great efforts made by the Beohar Rajendra Simha, on his 50th birth anniversary, the Constituent Assembly of India adopted Hindi as one of the two official languages which was later ratified by the Constitution of India.

On this Day, several cultural festivals are organized to honour Hindi literature and language. The Government ministries, PSUs, departments, banks, and citizens are also honoured with awards such as the Rajbhasha Gaurav Puraskar and the Rajbhasha Kirti Puraskar for their contributions to the language on this day.

Some of the famous Hindi quotes are:

  • Mahatma Gandhi - "Hindi ke bina main gunga hoon (Without Hindi, I am voiceless)".

  • Bal Gangadhar Tilak - "Main un logon me se hoon, jo chahte hai aur jinka vichar hai, ki Hindi hi bharat ki rashtra bhasha ho sakti hai. (I am one of those who think only Hindi can be India’s national language)".
