The prestigious IAAC (International Astronomy and Astrophysics Competition) 2021 has awarded the 1st rank to six students of LPU (Lovely Professional University).

The six students who have won this international honour are Gopalchetty Brahma, Akash Sharma, Vinay Kumar Reddy Andluri, M.S. Ragul, Bhanu Kapeendra Majety, and Sathwick Bikumalla. They are pursuing Aerospace Engineering from the University.

One of the biggest astronomy competitions across the globe, the IACC is hosted for students from across the world. In IACC 2021, 4700 students participated from the US, UK, Canada, Russia, Germany, France, China, Spain, Italy, South Korea and New Zealand.

The students from LPU were among the 1300 final participants shortlisted under the Youth and Junior categories.

Under the Youth category i.e. for above 18 years, Vinay Kumar Reddy Andluri and Gopalchetty Brahma won 'Gold Honor' whereas Akash Sharma and M.S. Ragul won 'Silver Honour'.

Under the Junior category i.e. for under 18 years, Sathwick Bikumalla won 'Gold Honor' and Bhanu Kapeendra Majety grabbed the 'Bronze Honor'.

The International Astronomy and Astrophysics Competition is comprised of 03 rounds:

  • the Qualification Round

  • the Pre-Final Round

  • the Final Round which tests the students' in-depth knowledge about astrophysics and astronomy, with a strict time limit of 1 minute for each question.

The entire competition is invigilated through the latest technologies including online proctoring with web-based tracking, webcam tracking, mouse pointer tracking, among others.
