The India Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) will host the Youth20 (Y20) consultation under the G20 presidency of India on April 5 and April 6, 2023. More than 1,200 youth representatives across India will attend the event.

IIT Guwahati also conducted the Y20, where more than 250 international delegates observed the event from February 6 to February 8, 2023.

Out of the five themes, the Y20 summit at IIT Kanpur will cater to two themes:

  • Future of Work:Industry 4.0, Innovation, and 21st-Century Skills

  • Health, Well-being, and Sports: Agenda for Youth

Navneet Sehgal, the Additional chief secretary of Uttar Pradesh, will attend the event as a chief guest and address the participants on April 6, 2023.

In addition to the panel discussions, an exhibit with around 50 stalls will display education, science, and tech stalls from Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre (SIIC), IIT Kanpur, will be arranged. Raj Shekar, Kanpur commissioner, will inaugurate the exhibition. Following this, a cultural evening with Hindustani and Carnatic music will also be held during the event.

The Y20, under the sponsorship of the Ministry of youth affairs & Sports, is a pan-India activity in the run-up to the final Y20 summit that will be carried out in Varanasi. The discussions from the consultation seek to unite young people to connect, share their ideas and experiences, and reflect on finding solutions to pressing global problems.

While speaking about the Y20 summit event, Abhay Karandikar, IIT Kanpur director, said: “It is a matter of dignity for every Indian that India has carried out the G20 Presidency. Under its support, the Youth20 Consultation is an important event that would unite youth from the G20 nations to discuss, ideate, and offer solutions to construct a better future. We are glad to host one of the Y20 Consultations on two core themes. As an institute, the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur has been spearheading research and development across these critical fields to empower youth and society for a long. I hope the productive debates and discussions from the consultation will contribute immensely to the larger Y20 summit.”
