Education is important to everyone. Education plays an important role in everyone's development. Helping individuals get to know their surroundings. Education is a tool to convey knowledge, skills, and information to individuals and to expand their vision and attitude toward the world. Education empowers everyone. People need quality education to survive in a highly competitive world. Lack of education leads to problems such as superstition, illiteracy, domestic violence, poor health, and a deteriorating standard of living. Therefore, education is an essential part of human life.
Education in a Broader Sense:
Education doesn't just mean school education. It is a lifelong process from the mother's womb to the mausoleum. We are learning a lot around us, either directly or indirectly. Training is not a time-limited process. We are always learning and say we can't be conscious of this happening.
"Learning is Both a Process and an Outcome".
Education is not a preparation for future life, it is a life process. I believe the environment and experience are the main sources of learning new and updated knowledge, and it is strongly necessary when these fads are in vogue.
Covid-19's Impact on Education:
The Covid-19 epidemic has shut down schools, colleges, and universities around the world. School closures have affected students and teachers as well as social and economic issues. It has a terrible effect on student education and causes problems such as student dropout, migration, and disruption of the curriculum. This problem had a great influence on the working class and the economically underdeveloped class. Lack of access to educational technology has affected the stability of Internet access for students in rural areas.
After a long time, it has been heard that schools and other institutes will reopen but again the news of shut down is spreading all around. Since the covid cases are again rising rapidly and it is affecting the education system much more than before. The teachers, students and even the parents are not able to handle the situation and having questions in their mind regarding the future of their child.
Education During the Coronavirus Pandemic:
Teachers were increasingly tech-savvy and adapted to the situation. A sudden move from classroom to remote, online learning at the outbreak of the coronavirus epidemic hindered learning for children in low-income regions around the world. There are several families at a disadvantage because they lacked financial means to afford electronic gadgets & strong Internet access was immediate. And parents, many of whom lacked the skills and ability to play the role of teacher, had to start home-schooling their children at short notice.
The impact of the epidemic on education is immense. UNESCO reported the staggering numbers: "More than 1.5 billion learners in 165 countries are affected by the closure of the COVID-19 school." And "in Africa, about 297 million learners have been affected," research scientist Moses Ngware writes. "Never before have we seen educational disruption on such a scale," The Director-General of UNESCO Audrey Azole said.
The school structure, including teaching and assessment methods, was the first to be affected by these closures. Few private schools could use online teaching methods. On the other hand, their low-income peers in private and public schools have shut down completely because they don't have access to online learning solutions. Students do not have access to healthy food during this time and are exposed to economic and social pressures, except for missed learning opportunities.
The epidemic has also disrupted the higher education sector, which is a major determinant of the country's economic future. Large numbers of Indian students - only after China - are enrolling in universities abroad, especially in countries affected by the epidemic, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and China. Many of these students are now prohibited from entering these countries. If the situation persists, a decline in international academic demand is expected in the long term.
The main source of this concern, however, is the impact of the disease on the employment rate. Young graduates in India are afraid to withdraw job offers from companies due to the current situation. In mid-March, the Center for Monitoring Indian Economic Projections on Unemployment raised the unemployment rate from 8.4% to 23% and the urban unemployment rate to 30.9% in early April.
Needless to say, the outbreak has replaced the centuries-old, tech-driven chalk-talking classroom model. This disruption in education is pushing policymakers to explain how to ensure inclusive e-learning solutions and to strengthen their commitment to tackling the digital divide.
A multi-level strategy is needed to overcome the crisis and build a long-term resilient Indian education system.
On the one hand, immediate action is needed to ensure the continuity of learning in public schools and universities. Open-source digital learning solutions and learning management software should be introduced to enable teachers to conduct online learning.
Two, comprehensive learning solutions need to be developed, especially for the most vulnerable and marginalized people. With the rapid growth in the number of mobile internet users in India, expected to reach 85% of households by 2024, technology is enabling universal access and privatization of education, even in the backward areas of the country. It can transform the school system and increase the effectiveness of learning and teaching so that students and teachers have many options to choose from. Many emerging districts have adopted innovative mobile learning models for effective education delivery that others can adopt.
Third, the higher education sector must be prepared for the supply and demand trends developed around the world - especially with regard to the global mobility of students and teachers and the improvement of quality demand. for higher education in India. In addition, urgent action is needed to reduce the impact of the epidemic on job vacancies, internship programs and research projects.
Fourth, it is also important to rethink the current methods of education and teaching in school and in higher education so that teaching can be integrated seamlessly in e-learning mode to build a system of integrated learning.
The biggest challenge of EdTech reforms at the national level is the seamless integration of technology into the current Indian education system, which is one of the most diverse and largest in the world with over 1.5 million schools and 50,000 higher education institutions. In addition, it is important to establish quality assurance mechanisms and quality criteria for e-learning developed and developed by Indian universities, as well as e-learning platforms (growing rapidly). Many e-learning players offer several courses on the same subject with different certifications, methodology, and assessment criteria. Therefore, the quality of the courses on different e-learning platforms may vary.
