The Indian Medicine Central Council (Amendment) Bill 2020 has been passed by the Lok Sabha which has already been passed by the Rajya Sabha. The Indian Medicine Central Council Act, 1970 is being amended to the Indian Medicine Central Council (Amendment) Bill.



Under the Act, the Constitution is being provided of a Central Council to modulate the education and practice of the Indian medicine system which includes Yoga, Ayurveda, and Naturopathy. The bill is also superseding the Indian Medicine Central Council (Amendment) Ordinance, 2020 which was proclaimed recently. It also provides that the Central Council Ordinance will remain to supplant from April 2020 and the Council will be recreated within one year.



In the meanwhile, the Central Government will also constitute a Governors' Board consisting of ten members which will also practice the Central Council's powers.



Dr. Harshvardhan, Health and Family Welfare Minister, said that the Government is devoted to introduce the pragmatic changes in the Indian Medicine Systems to deliver quality health care amenities.
