On Monday, the Delhi High Court directed the Delhi University to issue digital degree certificates within seven working dates for the students who urgently need the document to apply for admissions in a foreign university or for employment.

Pratibha M Singh, Justice, said, "Getting a degree is an event but it has become torture". Despite the earlier orders of the High Court to issue digital certificates, the authorities were demanding hard copy of the attached proof in the email to issue documents.

The HC also directed the authorities of the university to decide the timeline separately to issue documents for the students who need it on an urgent and non-urgent basis and present it before the court. The court also directed the students to again apply for the digital degree certificate along with the required documents and the document stating the urgency including employment or foreign university paper.

Earlier the HC had outlined the proper procedure for the issuance of the certificate stating that the students who need it urgently should not suffer and an online portal was also created for students to apply. This portal was www.digicerti.du.ac.in. But later on, it was notified by a student that the authorities are asking for the physical copy of the attached document.
