National Youth Day is observed every year on January 12 to celebrate the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. Every year on this day, the government holds National Youth Festival in partnership with one state willing to host from January 12 to January 16. This year Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated the festival on January 12 in Huballi, Karnataka.



The National Youth Day aims to bring the youth of the country jointly to showcase their skills in different activities to cover almost all socio-cultural aspects of life, delivering an opportunity for young artists to represent themselves, interact with fellow artists, and to further learn new art forms from professionals of various disciplines.



The theme of the National Youth Festival



The Centre said the festival aims to deliver exposure to youths at a national level, and this year’s theme for the four-day programme is Viksit Yuva – Viksit Bharat (Developed Youth – Developed India).



National Youth Festival 2023



This year the National Youth Festival is being carried out by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in cooperation with Karnataka. The event will be organised from January 12 to January 16, 2023, at Hubballi- Dharwad, Karnataka. Up to 30,000 youth will attend the inaugural function, where the Prime Minister will share his concept. During this five-day event, more than 7500 youth delegates from all over India, recognized leaders in their own area of activity, get together to engage in various learning activities.



National Youth Day History



In 1985, the government announced the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, January 12, as National Youth Day. Since then, all the centres of Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission have been observing the occasion via various programmes.
