On Saturday, in order to promote social and emotional learning, the Tripura government initiated an exceptional education programme titled- Saharsh.

The education programme- ‘Saharsh’ was introduced in August last year in 40 schools of the state on a pilot basis. The officials said the approach would be extended to all government/government-aided schools of the state from the second week of January.

A similar programme, found to be effective in social and economic development in research studies of Harvard and Columbia Universities, is being contextualized with regional realities of India before executing in Tripura, officials said.

After inaugurating the 49th state-level science, mathematics, and environment exhibition here Saturday, Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath stated that the state government has been operating towards a thriving and self-reliant Tripura for the last five years.

The education minister said the school education department launched 36 reforms in the previous five years and the higher education department 19 reforms, the highest across the nation. He added the Saharsh initiatives aim to empower children to learn with happiness.

The state government has already prepared 204 schools for the ‘Saharsh’ curriculum, while 200 schools more will be trained soon. 30 assistant headmasters from diverse districts of Tripura were selected to work as Saharsh execution ambassadors.

The education minister also launched a special ‘Saharsh’ teacher guideline handbook and said the complete module was available on the (SCERT)- State Council of Educational Research and Training website.

Nath said under the Saharsh initiative, children won’t be pressurised to study- they would be encouraged to social and emotional learning.

He added that while Tripura was classified among the fifth grade in Performance Grading Index (PGI) during the erstwhile Left Front government, the state now rates among Grade 1 in the category.
