Dharmendra Pradhan, Education Minister, has informed that the Government is proposing to establish an NRF (National Research Foundation). The Foundation will help in strengthening the research environment across the country.

The Govt is envisaging NRF as an umbrella institution which will help in improving linkages between academia, research & development, and industry.

Mr. Pradhan, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha, informed that the total proposed outlay of the Foundation is Rs. 50,000 crore over the duration of 05 years.

One of the main objectives of the Foundation will be to plant, nourish, and facilitate research at academic institutions, mainly at colleges and universities, he added.

Pradhan also informed that NRF will also support and fund large-scale, high-impact, multi-institution, multi investigator, interdisciplinary, and multi-nation projects in cooperation with concerned Departments, Ministries, and other Govt/ Non-Govt entities.
