On September 24, 2020, the National Service Scheme awards will be presented by Indian President Ram Nath Kovind for the 2018-19 year. The NSS (National Service Scheme) for session 2018-19 will be awarded to 42 recipients and the award will be awarded in 03 different categories such as NSS Units and their Programme Officers, University/ 12th Council and NSS Volunteers.



The ceremony was held in Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi and has also been attended by the Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju.



The award is presented every year by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to acknowledge their contribution towards optional community assistance made by Councils, Colleges/ Universities, Senior Secondary, NSS Units, Programme Officers and Volunteers to boost NSS in the country.



Launched in 1969, the NSS is a Centrally Sector Scheme with the principal objective of flourishing the character and personality of the student generation. The volunteers work on concerns of social convictions including a) Health; b) Literacy and Education; c) Environment Conservation; d) Women Empowerment Programmes; e) Social Service Programme; f) Economic Development Activities, and g) Rescue and Relief Programmes during Calamities etc.
