More than half of the United States's 04-year degree colleges and universities have done away with the ACT & SAT scores for Fall admissions 2021. The scores of SAT and ACT (American College Test) are considered for admission into US colleges and universities.

Earlier, the University of California had announced to not consider SAT scores for admissions.

More than 1200 institutions, including top universities such as Brown University, Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Virginia, Yale University, and Columbia University, have notified regarding the optional use of the test scores. Some universities also informed that this policy could continue next year too.

In 2019, a lawsuit was filed against the college entrance exams notifying that these exams are biased against Black, Hispanic, and poor students. The petitioners alleged that the system is illegally discriminating against students on the basis of their wealth, race and disability.

Not just US universities, many Indian universities also consider SAT scores to grant admissions. But, for now, they are accepting test results.

The US College Board which conducts the SAT, informed that the exam is intended to enhance the admissions and access to colleges. The Board is also not opposing the decision taken by the multiple universities.

Vice President of College Readiness Assessments at the Board Priscilla Rodriguez said that the board is supporting the colleges which have introduced more options and flexibility into the admission procedure through test-optional policies.
