Mr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister of the State for Shipping, has announced the Online Exit Examinations for Seafarers keeping in mind the current pandemic situation which makes India the first and only country who has taken this initiative.

The seafarers who are under training in various Maritime Training Institutes can appear for the exams from the safety of their home. The Maritime Training Institutes fall under the jurisdiction of the Director-General of Shipping.

Mr. Mandaviya said, "Because of the online exam, the accuracy of the exam and uniformity in assessment of candidates can be ensured". The announcement was made in a virtual ceremony.

Mr. Amitabh Kumar, the Director-General of Shipping, also attended the ceremony. He stated that the decision will ensure the 'zero possibility of any misconduct during the exam'.
