The SERB-POWER Scheme has been launched by the Minister of Science and Technology Harsh Vardhan that focuses on promoting and uplifting the esteemed as well as emerging women scientists and researchers in the Research & Development areas of Science and Engineering.



Under the scheme, the women researchers will be encouraged to take part in R&D in academic and research organisations' regular facility at the topmost level via two categories: SERB - POWER Research Grant and SERB - POWER Fellowship.





The schemes will promote women researchers in regular service in academic and research institutions to take up R&D at the highest level through two categories of research support: SERB – POWER Fellowship and SERB – POWER Research Grants. Under the SERB – POWER Fellowship, a research grant a personal fellowship will be offered to best-performing women researchers for a three-year duration whereas the SERB – POWER Research Grants will secure the funding for influential research work across all science and technology streams.



The SERB – POWER Research Grants will be funding the women researchers under 02 categories:





  • The first category will be including women scientists from IITs, IISc, IISERs, NITs, National Labs of Central Govt. Institutions and Central Universities. The funding will be provided for a 03-year duration and up to Rs. 60 lakhs.




  • The second category will be including researchers and scientists from state colleges/ universities and private institutions. Under this category, the funding will be provided for a 03-year duration and up to Rs. 30 lakhs.





The Minister, while speaking at the virtual event, insisted on the magnitude to empower women scientists and researchers. He further added that there are several hurdles faced by the women scientists so there is a requirement for alternate ways and special attention to support and encourage them.
