Being a teacher is one of the noblest and most respected professions that receive a large amount of love, affection, and respect as any other profession. In India- Teacher's Day is celebrated every year on September 5, in order to mark the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. The greatest scholar was born on September 5, 1888.
About Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and the History of Teacher's Day
Dr.Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was a former President of India, philosopher, Bharat Ratna recipient, and scholar. On this day, students across the country pay their respect and tribute to their teachers. Many schools and colleges celebrate this teacher's day by organizing various events. Every Teacher's Day is a reminder of the role that teachers play in nation-building by guiding and enlightening the brightest minds of our country. India observed its first Teacher's Day on September 5, 1962, when it was Radhakrishnan's 77th birthday.
He was one of the most well-known writers in contemporary India. He has made exceptional contributions to various subjects- beginning with moral, theoretical, communal, theological, instructive, and informative subjects. He also wrote articles for many recognized journals, which are very important.
On September 5, Dr. S. Radhakrishnan's friends approached him to allow them to celebrate his birthday. In a reply, he said that instead of observing my birthday discretely, it would be my pompous privilege if September 5 is observed as Teachers' Day. Such a plea coming from the President of India showcased Dr. S. Radhakrishnan's affection and dedication toward teachers. Thus, this is how India started celebrating Teacher's Day.
The future of a nation lies in the hands of its youth and teachers as mentors who can mold students into future leaders who shape the destiny of India. Teachers play an essential role in our lives by helping us become successful in businesses and careers. They guide us on every path of life and also to become good human beings, a better contributor to society, and an ideal citizen of the nation. Every year we celebrate Teachers Day to acknowledge the hardships, challenges, and roles played by teachers in our lives.
Teachers should be appreciated, respected, and honored. On the eve of Teachers' Day in India, the President of India gives National Teachers Awards to those who are meritorious. The awards are granted as public gratitude to commendable teachers working in primary, middle, and secondary schools.
Teacher's Day 2022
According to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Teaching is not a profession, a way of life. Teaching is not a career but Jeevan Dharm (a way of life). He asked teachers to understand modifications happening across the world so that they can prepare the new generation to face them. He also said that India should retrieve the status of Vishwaguru (leader in education) by giving heightened respect to teachers whom he asked to inspire students to think critically about problems concerning the nation. Teachers' determination and solemnity will shape the nation's destiny as they lay a foundation and building blocks of society.
Teachers nurture and train students for their future as they are the real icon of knowledge and wisdom. September 5 is also a day when we can look back and be inspired by the life and incredible works of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan. He hailed from a small city boy, and with the help of education, he became an esteemed politician and visionary educationist.
Role of Teachers in our lives
Teachers are one of the most worth remembering people in our lives. They create awareness among the students and other people about the difference between good and bad. Teachers are the source of light in the world that has been dulled due to ignorance or unawareness. Teachers are not just people- they become our support system and the true pillars of our achievements. They constantly help us gain wisdom and knowledge, enhance our skills, grow confidence and also help us to choose the right path to success.
Despite playing such a critical role in the lives of students, people, and nation-building, we rarely show the thankfulness they deserve. Being a student- we must thank our teachers and mentors at least once a year, and Teacher's Day offers us an ideal opportunity to do so.
