A tram library, one of its kind, is being launched by WBTC (West Bengal Transport Corporation) to attract scholars from various educational establishments.



Rajanvir Singh Kapur, Managing Director of West Bengal Transport Corporation, said that the tram library will contain magazines and books on WBCS, GRE/ GMAT, Civil Services to entice scholars from educational establishments along the route.



The tram library will travel routinely from Shyambazar to Esplanade via the education hub of the city, College Street, covering 4.5 km and will be inaugurated on September 24, 2020. The route covers around 30 educational establishments including Calcutta University, Scottish Church College, Hindu School, Presidency University, Hare School and Calcutta Girl's School.



The library will also provide free wifi facilities which will help readers a great deal while accessing e-books. The collection will also be updated regularly, as informed Mr. Kapur. The book reading sessions, literary festivals and book launches will also be planned for future occasions.



Mr Kapur, also added, "The tram library, being introduced by the WBTC that oversees India's only functional tramways, is a special tram with books, magazines, which can be read while travelling on the tram".
