On Friday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath highly praised Operation Kayakalp, which aimed to give government schools a facelift.

Chief Minister said almost 60 lakh new students were registered to Basic Education Council schools in six years.

Interacting with children during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's annual 'Pariksha Pe Charcha' programme, Adityanath Yogi said before 2017, children were pushed to go to schools barefoot, but now they wear proper uniforms and carry school backpacks.

The UP government, under the UP Free School Uniform Scheme, has initiated a direct bank transfer (DBT) procedure of Rs 1,200 to parents of 1.91 crore children to purchase school uniforms, sweaters, school bags, socks, shoes, and stationery items for their wards.

According to a statement issued by the state government, creative measures like the 'Skill India Mission' will provide momentum to the campaign to bring about further modification in the state of education in Uttar Pradesh. The chief minister Adityanath Yogi attended the programme from Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey UP Sainik School in Lucknow along with students and teachers.

Addressing the parents of students appearing for the Class 10 and 12 board examinations, he said students should not be expected to score high marks as it could impact them negatively.

The chief minister said students should be motivated to healthy competition, but no pressure should be there for more marks. Often due to the anxiety due to exam pressure, children are unable to perform well in exams, he added.

He also honoured meritorious students during the event. Around 1,698 students from diverse secondary boards were awarded Rs 1 lakh, citations, tablets, and copies of the book 'Exam Warriors' authored by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Adityanath said the state government was paying particular attention to the education of the girl child under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangala Yojana.
