The US CDC (Centres for Disease Control and Prevention) has reduced the distance guidance for schools. The distance guidance has been reduced from 06 feet to 03 feet. The authorities added that the 03 feet distance is enough for students in the classroom as long as masks and other COVID-19 safety measures are being followed.

Earlier, the CDC had suggested the schools to strictly enforce 06 feet of social distance in areas having high cases of CORONA.

The new guidelines further added that the social distance of 06 feet must still be followed around teachers, between students and adults at all times. The CDC also informed that the 06 feet of the distance must also be maintained when masks can't be worn and during activities such as band practices, singing, exercise and sports.

The CDC notified that the middle school and high school students must be put into small groups known as 'cohorting' in high community transmission areas. By relieving distance requirements, the new guidance has made it easier for many of the nation's around 57 million students studying in K-12 to return to the in-person classrooms.

Rochelle Walensky, Director of CDC, said, "These updated recommendations provide the evidence-based roadmap to help schools reopen safely, and remain open, for in-person instruction".

President of the US National Education Association Becky Pringle said that the educators wish to see comprehensive details about the motive and also warned that this rule would be 'challenging; for large urban schools.
