Under Mission Shakti Phase Four, the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh will deliver self-defence training in the upper primary and composite schools to provide the safety and well-being of girls and strengthen their physical and mental self-reliance.

Owing to the sustained efforts of CM Yogi Adityanath and his policy of 'Zero Tolerance' against criminality and criminals in the last five and half years, there has been a significant drop in crimes against women in the state. In order to guarantee their proper security, the school-going girls will be trained under the 'Rani Laxmi Bai' self-defence training programme.

Vijay Kiran Anand, Director-general of school education, has issued guidelines for conducting the self-defence programme. The self-defence training aims to make girls physically and mentally self-dependent so they can handle and tackle any odd situation without being conflicted.

Following the mantra of 'Attack is the most appropriate weapon for self-defence'- an action plan for the training has been prepared. This training will begin in December 2022 and will be held till February 2023. Health and physical education professors and KGBV's sports teachers will deliver self-defence training to all the girls studying in the school during the specified period for physical education, arts, music, and sports.

The training will be carried out under the supervision of the school headmaster. A teacher of the schools will also be involved during the training and will be continuously present during the training time for the girls.

During the warm-up activities in the first week of the programme, there will be a mock drill with the children, making them aware of the safety efforts, laws, helpline numbers, etc.

For easy reference, a booklet designed by the Women and Child Protection Organization Headquarters, 1090 Lucknow, based on vital laws about crimes against women and children, will also be read and discussed in depth with the children.
