Overview
The Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE) is conducted with the intention of maintaining a standard among Medical candidates. The purpose of the exam is to enable an Indian Citizen to pursue a Medical career in India. If a candidate clears a primary medical qualification from a medical institution abroad/ University and is looking for provisional or permanent registration with the Medical Council of India / State Medical Council, then he/she has to appear for this to FMGE. The FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduates Examination) is conducted 2 times a year in the month of June and December.

The Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE) is conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBA) which is a national level examination. This is the institution that also delivers Post Graduate degrees granted by the Government of India and the MCI to the candidate termed as a Diplomate of National Board (DNB).

The national level test is conducted in Online mode for all PG level Medical courses. The total time duration of the exam is 02 hours 30 minutes. The distribution of marks in all subjects is as follows:

All the candidates must secure at least 150 marks out of 300 marks in the screening test conducted by National Board of Examinations (NBE).

There is no specific limit for the number of attempts to apply for the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE).
Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE) Screening Test Eligibility Criteria:

Candidate either is an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or a citizen of India.

Candidates must also possess a primary medical degree that is confirmed by the concerned Indian Embassy. It is mandatory that his/ her qualifications are recognized by the country where the institute is situated so that Candidate can enroll as a medical practitioner.

Candidate also has to submit documents as proof to educational claims.

If Candidate has cleared primary medical qualifications from Australia, UK, USA, New Zealand, Canada then Candidate not have to appear for the FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduates Examination).

Ques 4. How many attempts are there for FMGE?
Ans. The FMGE exam is conducted 2 times a year in the months of June and December. Candidate can have a minimum of 3 attempts to pass the FMGE examination. Candidates are required to qualify the exam with minimum 50% marks.
Ques 5. Is there a new Testing Mode for FMGE?
Ans. Earlier the FMGE used to be a pen and paper-based test but now, the format has been changed. Now, it is a computer-based examination. Candidates have to read the questions on the computer and click on the right answer in the given time.
Ques 6. What is the 15-minute tutorial in FMGE?
Ans. When the FMGE test became computer-based, a 15-minute tutorial to guide the candidates in taking the exam was introduced. This tutorial takes the candidate through the various elements of the exam through the navigation system which includes questions, reviews, select, de-select, change, and mark responses.

Ans. No, it is mandatory to clear FMGE. If you have completed your undergraduate medical degree program from outside India. However, candidates with an undergraduate medical degree from New Zealand, Canada, Australia, the United States of America / the United Kingdom, are exempted from FMGE.
Ques 9. Can I appear for FMGE from any computer?
Ans. No, A candidate will have to take the test on a pre-assigned computer at the test center of FMGE. A candidate can choose the test center while filling the application form of FMGE.
