Overview
National Means cum Merit Scholarship Scheme also referred to as NMMSS is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme for meritorious students, who drop out at class 8th to encourage them so they continue the further study, by awarding scholarships. This scheme is for students belonging to Economically Weaker Sections category to study in classes from IX to XII in Government aided & State Government schools. The NMMSS is conducted in each Union Territory and State.
National Means cum Merit Scholarship (NMMSS) Scheme:
100,000 scholarships are awarded under this scheme on a yearly basis. The scholarship is awarded to the students studying in class 9th as regular students in a Local Body, Government, and Government Aided schools and is renewed for 10th, 11th, and 12th classes. The scholarships are awarded for a maximum period of four years. Since each States/UTs have their own guidelines/norms of reservation, the scheme provides reservations to different categories as per those norms.

The National Means cum Merit Scholarship Scheme is conducted by the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) for EWS students. The Department of School Education andLiteracy focuses mainly on the Universalisation of Education in the country. The students for the scholarship are selected through examination which is conducted by each State & UT. The exam is conducted annually and in Offline mode.

National Means cum Merit Scholarship (NMMSS) Selection Procedure: Following are the stages to qualify for the exam:

The examination is conducted in Offline mode. The total time duration is 03 hours (90 minutes for each test). Children with Disabilities are given extra time. The total marks of the exam are 180 marks. The details of the exam pattern are given below:

National Means cum Merit Scholarship (NMMSS) Eligibility Criteria:
- Educational Criteria:

Students studying in class 9th in any Local Body, Government, and Government-Aided schools are eligible to appear.

Minimum marks in the qualifying exam must be 55% (5% relaxation for SC/ST).

Ques 1. How can a candidate apply for the NMMS?
Ans. Candidates can apply online for the exam through the National Scholarship Portal. All the States/UTs release the NMMS form pdf on their official website. Students can obtain the exam form offline as well from the Liasion Officer appointed in each State/UT.

Ans. Once the application submission process is done and the fee is paid no changes could be made so candidates are advised to fill the form wisely,
