Overview

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research conducts the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research UGC NET. The subjects for which the examination is held are- Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, and Physical Sciences.

The exam is conducted to determine the eligibility of Indian citizens for the award of Junior Research Fellowship & for appointment as Lecturers. Only the top 6% of the qualified candidates are shortlisted for the appointment.

Eligibility:

  • Age limit:- Upper age limit of 30 years for General Category candidates and 35 years for reserved category candidates. No upper age limit for Assistant Professor post.

  • Educational Qualification:- Post-graduation or equivalent with 55% marks for General Category) and 50% for SC/ST/OBC/PwD. 5% relaxation will be given to those who have completed their Doctorate degree before September 19, 1991.

Ques 7. What is the age limit to apply for the CSIR NET Exam? 

Ans. As per the CSIR NET Eligibility Criteria, the JRF candidates can apply for the exam till the age of 28 years (GEN & OBC) or 33 Years (All Other Reserved Categories). Whereas, there are no age guidelines applicable to the applicants seeking to appear for the lectureship exam.

Ques 8. Can an engineering candidate appear in the NET exam while doing graduation?

Ans. The candidates appearing in the final year of Graduation or in the first year of Master’s you can appear in the CSIR NET exam but only for Junior Research Fellowship. The Engineering Students in Final Year may also apply for the JRF exam. For applying the post of Assistant Professor, you must have a Masters’ degree.

Ans. The CSIR NET Exam is conducted for Science Students. The Non-Science Students can appear in UGC NET Exam for making a career in the Lectureship and Research.
