Overview
The Department of Science and Technology of the Govt. of India funds the Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana, a Scholarship program. It is administered by the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru. This Yojana is for students who want to pursue a career in Science and Research. Students studying in XI, XII and 1st year of B.Sc. B.S./ B.Stat./ B.Math./ Int. M.Sc./ M.S. in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology are eligible to apply. The objective of the Yojana is to help students in pursuing their dream career and to encourage many more to take a Research career in Science.
Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana Conducting Body:
The KVPY exam is conducted by the Indian Institute of Sciences (IISc), Bangalore. The exam is conducted once in a year.

Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana Selection Procedure: The selection procedure for the KVPY Fellowship is divided into 2 phases:

Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana Exam Pattern:
- Aptitude Test: The aptitude test is conducted in online mode. The total time duration of the test is 3 hours and contains objective questions. The medium of instructions of the examination is in Hindi and English. The pattern of the test is:

For SA Stream: The test paper is divided into 2 parts which are further sub-divided into 4 sections. The candidates must attempt each section. Part-1 contains 60 questions each of 1 mark and Part-2 contains 20 questions each of 2 marks.

For Stream SB/SX: The test paper is divided into 2 parts which are further sub-divided into 4 sections. The candidates must attempt any 3 sections in Part-1 and any 2 sections in Part-2. Each question in Part-1 carry 1 mark and of Part-2 carry 2 marks.

- Interview:- The shortlisted candidates on the basis of their performance in the aptitude test are called for the personal interview round.
Final Selection:- The overall merit list is prepared with giving 75% weightage to the aptitude test performance and 25% weightage to the interview.

SA Stream: The fellowship of the selected candidates under the SA stream is activated only when they secure admission in an undergraduate science course in Basic Sciences (B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S.), and also have secured no less than 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in the XII Standard Board examination & 75%(65% for SC/ST/PWD) in class X in aggregate in Mathematics and Science subjects.

M.Sc./Int. M.S.), and also have secured no less than 75% (65% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in Mathematics and Science subjects in the X Standard Board examination.

SB Stream: Candidate must have secured no less than 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in the XII standard examination for B.Sc./B.S./B.Math./B.Stat./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S. and 60%(50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in their first year of graduation before taking up the fellowship, if awarded.

Ques 1. What is the purpose of the test?
