Overview

Directorate of Technical Education-Maharashtra officiates the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MHT-CET). It is an annual level examination which acts as the gateway for admissions to the various B.Tech courses offered by the institutes in Maharashtra state.

More than 2000 educational institutions in the state use DTE Maharashtra exams - The Directorate of Technical Education Maharashtra. The Directorate administers entrance tests including MH-CET, the state entrance test for selection in technical institute degree courses, including Diploma courses for Bachelor of Architecture and Bachelor of Hotel Management and catering technology.

Conducting Body: Directorate of Technical Education-Maharashtra officiates the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MHT-CET) annually.

Important Dates:

Selection Process: The selection of candidates is made on a 2- stage performance evaluation as under 

• Stage I: Written Test 

• Stage II: According to the marks of the candidate, the merit list will be published by the Board on the website. Qualified candidates will be shortlisted in the merit list for the counselling process.

Exam Pattern: The examination is conducted in online mode and consists of two separate papers each of a total duration of one and a half hours. The medium of instruction for Paper-1 will be in the English language only, and that of Paper-2 will be in English, Hindi and Marathi languages. Questions in Paper-1 (Mathematics) will carry 2 marks and that of Paper-2 (Physics and Chemistry) will carry 1 mark each. There shall be no negative marking in both the papers.

Note:

• There is no provision of negative marking.

• Candidates who want to secure admission for the B.Tech courses will have to take Paper-3 along with Paper-1.

• Those who want to secure admission in the Health Science and BVSc AH will have to take Paper-1 and Paper-2.

• Those who want to pursue a pharmaceutical course will have to attempt Paper-1 along with Paper-2 or Paper-3.

Educational Qualification: 10+2 with 50% (45% for SC/ST/OBC) aggregate marks in Mathematics, Physics, and one of the following subjects:

Syllabus/Subjects: Several topics from the subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/Biology.

- Physics:

The topics from Physics subject are – Measurements, Friction in solids and liquids, Scalars and Vectors, Force, Refraction of Light, Magnetic effect of electric current, Ray optics, Magnetism, etc.

- Chemistry:

The topics from Chemistry subject are –

Some basic concepts of chemistry, Redox reaction, States of Matter: Surface chemistry, Basic principles, and techniques in organic chemistry, Gases and liquids,  Hydrogen, S-Block elements (Alkali and alkaline earth metals), Nature of chemical bond, Alkanes, etc.

- Mathematics:

Trigonometric functions, Relations and Functions, Trigonometric functions of Compound Angles,  Factorization Formulae, Circle and Conics, Sequences and series, Probability, Straight Line, Sets, etc.

- Biology:

Botany – Diversity in organisms, Plant Growth and Development, Plant Water Relations, and Mineral Nutrition,  Biochemistry of the cell.

Zoology – Organization of Cell, Human Nutrition, Animal tissues, Human Respiration.

Ques 1. Are students appearing in the final year eligible?

Ans. Yes, candidates appearing in the final year are eligible.

Ques 2. Can I modify/correct the details in the application form?

Ans. Yes, you can modify/correct details in the application form only if the authority provides the correction facility.

Ques 3. Is there any negative marking in MH CET?

Ans. No, there is no negative marking for incorrect answers.

Ques 10. I am an NRI Candidate aspiring for engineering admission. Can I appear for MHT CET 2020?

Ans. No. The Children of NRI / OCI / PIO, Children of Indian workers in the Gulf countries, Foreign National are excused from appearing for MHT CET 2020. They shall register for Admission purposes during the Document Verification stage of Centralized Admission Process, as per the schedule to be announced by the Competent Authority.

Ques 11. I am an ST Category candidate student of Madhya Pradesh state. Can I avail of the benefit of ST Category?

Ans. No. The reservation will be given to the Backward Class Candidates of Maharashtra State only.

Ques 12. I am a Diploma in Electrical Engineering, should I appear for CET for admissions to first-year engineering course?

Ans. No. Diploma candidates are qualified for admission without MHTCET. 

Ques 13. I am appearing for the class 12 examination in Mumbai, how do I know if the District of College falls under Mumbai (11) or Mumbai Suburban (12)?

Ans. If your School / Jr. College is situated anywhere between Colaba and Mahim or Colaba and Sion, then select Mumbai (11) and if it is beyond Sion and Mahim, then select Mumbai Suburban (12).

Ques 14. I have made an error in filling my name/father's / husband's first name / last name/mother's first name/date of birth. What should I do?

Ans. The corrections can be made by sending a letter to the competent authority, MHT-CET, Mumbai. This letter should be submitted before the declaration of results and should be accompanied by an SSC mark-sheet.

Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MHT-CET) Application Process

The application form can be filled in Online mode. Following are the steps to apply that must be followed while filling the form:

• Registration: Visit the official site at mahacet.org and click on the link 'Click Here To Apply For MHT-CET 2021'.

• Verification: After completing the registration, an email is sent on the provided i.d to verify. The registration process is completed only after verification.

• Application Form Filling: Again, login with the provided credentials and fill in the application form

• Uploading Documents: Upload the scanned copies of their documents and submit. (Photo: 15-50 KB; Signature: 05-20 KB).

• Payment of application fee: The last step is the payment and to apply successfully, candidates must make the payment.

The admit card is a mandatory document for the test and the candidate must carry it to the exam center along with an I.D proof such as Driving License, Voter Card, PAN Card, Aadhar Card.
