The exam is conducted in two phases-

Preliminary Exam

Mains Exam (Written & Interview)
The selection of the candidates purely depends on merit which is based on the performance in the above-mentioned rounds.
Bihar Provincial Civil Service Exam (BPSC) Pattern:
Preliminary Examination:- The preliminary examination is of qualifying nature and is conducted Offline. The examination consists of one paper of the Objective nature of a total duration of 2 hours. The examination contains Objective type questions and is of qualifying nature. The pattern is as follows:-

Mains Examination (Written Exam):- The candidates who get shortlisted from the preliminary examination are allowed for the mains examination. The BPSC Mains examination has papers of Descriptive nature. The following is the exam paper pattern of the mains examination

Note:- The candidates need to score a minimum of 30% marks in Hindi to be eligible for further evaluation. The merit list is prepared on the basis of the performances of the candidates in the last three papers i.e. General Studies Paper I, General Studies Paper II, and Optional Paper.

Interview:- The candidates who are shortlisted from the mains examinations are called for the interviews to judge their mental ability, decision making, and their suitability for the service. This exam carries 120 marks.
Final Selection:- The final merit list is prepared on the basis of the performances of the candidates in Mains and Interview. The final merit list is prepared on the basis of 1020 marks(900+120).
