JAM is also known as the Joint Admission Test for MSc. JAM is the National level online entrance exam organized by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT), Roorkee every year. A biometric system of finger print is used for this exam. IIT Joint Admission Test (JAM) is conducted in seven science subjects to provide admission to candidates in M.Sc and other bachelor courses at IITs. Courses offered like M.Sc.,Integrated Ph.D. degree programs at IISc and Dual Degree programs at the IITs.

Joint Admission Test (JAM) Selection Procedure:

The selection process of the IIT JAM exam is on the basis of given following rounds:

  • Online Exam

  • Merit List 

Joint Admission Test (JAM) Exam Pattern:

The exam is conducted in Online (computer based) mode and in two sessions (Morning & Afternoon). The duration of the exam is 03 hours. The medium of the test is English only. The questions asked in 3 different patterns such as Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), Multiple Select Questions (MSQ), and Numerical Answer Type Questions (NAT). The question paper is of 100 marks and the total no. of questions are 60. A total of 7 papers are organized for the JAM exam.

- Marking scheme of the exam: There is a provision of Negative Marking for section A only. 

  • 1/3 marks get deducted for each question having total of 1 mark and 2/3 marks for each question having 2 marks.

Joint Admission Test (JAM) Eligibility Criteria:

  • Nationality: Candidates belonging to Indian nationals and Foreign nationals.

  • Age Limit: There is no age limit. 

  • Qualifying Exam: Bachelor’s degree in any discipline.

  • Minimum Marks: Candidate passed the qualifying exam with aggregate marks or CGPA/CPI (without rounding-off) with at least 55% or 5.5 out of 10 for General/OBC (NCL) category candidates (50% or 5.0 for SC/ST and PwD category candidates).

  • Candidates studying in their final year of qualifying exam are also eligible to apply.
