Indian Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) Selection Procedure:
The selection procedure is divided into 2 phases-

Online Test
-
SSB Interview
The selection procedure consists of two steps- Online Test and SSB Interview. The candidates who are applying for the technical post need to appear for an additional test i.e the Engineering Knowledge Test (EKT).
Indian Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) Exam Pattern:-
Online Test: The common AFCAT contains these 4 sections:- General Awareness, Verbal Ability in English, Numerical Ability and Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test. The questions of Engineering Knowledge Test are asked from Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering and Computer Science & Engineering.

Staff Selection Board (SSB) Interviews:- The candidates who qualify the Online examination are called for the interview.
The SSB interviews further divided into 2 Stages:

Indian Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) Eligibility Criteria:
- Age limit: Candidate's age must not be less than 20 years and must not be more than 24 years for Flying branch (26 years for Technical/Ground staff branch).
- Educational qualification:

For Flying branch: must have done Graduation from any recognized university in any discipline. Applicants appearing in their final year exam are also eligible to apply. The Combined Defence Service Examination has no maximum percentage criteria as well.

For Ground Staff: Applicants must have a graduate degree from any recognized university with min. 60% marks.

Ques 1. Is the UPSC exam for NDA / CDSE entry the same as AFCAT?
Ans. No. Both exams are different.
Ques 2. What is the eligibility criteria for AFCAT?
Ans. The eligibility criteria with respect to educational qualifications, age limit etc. for AFCAT is mentioned on the website www.careerairforce.nic.in. Graduation is the minimum qualification required for AFCAT.
Ques 3. Are women candidates eligible to apply for AFCAT?
Ans. Yes, women applicants are eligible to apply for AFCAT.
Ques 4. I have completed my Class 12th exam. Am I eligible for AFCAT?
Ans. No. Minimum qualification required for AFCAT is graduation/post graduation (depending on the branch you are applying for) and there is also a minimum requirement of marks in graduation/post graduation. For full details, please refer the website careerairforce.nic.in.

Ans. No. There is no fee/registration charges.
Ques 6. I am interested in applying for flying branch and I have filled up all the columns correctly to my knowledge also. Yet, it's showing that I am not eligible for flying branch?
Ans. Check the age and educational qualification criteria. Also, check if marks in Graduation are 60% aggregate and at 10+2 level 60% each in Physics and Maths.
Ques 7. Whether applicants having CPL issued by DGCA eligible for age relaxation for flying branch or not?
Ans. There is a certain age relaxation of two years for CPL holders. However, one related the educational qualification criteria.
Ques 8. Does Flying Branch offer Permanent Commission through AFCAT?
Ans. No, only Short Service Commission is offered.
Ques 9. Can I need to send any documents to AFCAT Cell for Admit Card etc?
Ans. No. But applications are online.
Ques 10. I have a degree from a foreign university. Am I eligible?
Ans. For being eligible for AFCAT, the degree must be recognized by UGC/AICTE/Ministry of HRD/DEC.
Ques 11. Do I write the marks in decimal form?
Ans. Even if the percentage of the mark is entered in decimals, it is rounded off to the lower whole number e.g. 59.9% is treated as 59%.
Ques 12. My university has awarded CGPA. How do I fill up the percentage column?
Ans. In case of candidates being awarded Grades/CGPA instead of marks, the conversion of Grades/CGPA to the percentage of marks is based on the procedure certified by the university/ institution from where they have obtained the Bachelor's degree.
Ques 13. What if I clear AFCAT but not EKT?
Ans. If you have applied for ground & flying branch along with technical but couldn't clear EKT, you are considered for other branches. AsEKT is just for the technical branch so even if you aren't able to clear it you're eligible for the other branches(Flying and ground duty).
Ques 14. Can I change my AFCAT exam Centre?
Ans. No, you can not change your exam centre once selected.
Ques 15. Can Final year students apply for AFCAT?
Ans. Yes, a Final year student can apply for AFCAT.
Ques 16. Is AFCAT permanent commission?
Ans. One is the Permanent Commission (PC) and the other is the Short Service Commission (SSC). The Permanent Commission (PC) is only for males while the Short Service Commission (SSC) is for both males and females.
