International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO)

International Earth Science Olympiad, also known as IESO, is a competition for students of Secondary school to test their knowledge abilities in subjects such as Environmental Science, Meteorology, Astronomy, and Geology. The winners of the respective competitions on the national level are invited for participation in the IESO. IESO is one of the twelve International Science Olympiads and is among the only three ISO other than International Olympiad on Astronomy & Astrophysics and International Linguistic Olympiad. For the promotion of Earth Science, the Ministry of Earth Science (MoES), Government of India support IESO as one of its outreach programme.
International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO) Conducting Body:
The Geological Society of India (GSI) conducts the International Earth Science Olympiad to select the Indian Team. The Earth Science Olympiad Cell on behalf of ESO conducts the olympiad at the GSI (Geological Society of India) constituted by the President of the Geological Society of India. The International Earth Science Olympiad is conducted once in a year.

International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO) Exam Pattern:
The examination is conducted in Offline mode. The total time duration is 01 hour 30 minutes (90 minutes) for the exam. The exam is conducted in the English language. The questions are objective type. The examination is suitable for students studying through State Board/CBSE / ICSE / ISC. The detailed exam pattern is as follows:-

Training Camp: The Training Camp is usually for a duration of 25 days and comprises Discussions, Lectures, Planetarium visit, Field & Lab work. The Indian National Earth Science Olympiad (INESO) is held at the end of the Camp and the top four students represent India at the IESO. The selected students for the Training Camp are awarded 'Certificate of Participation'. The four students selected for the IESO are awarded Cash Prizes and 'Certificates of Merit'.

Ques 1. How can a candidate apply for the IESO?
Ans. A candidate can apply online only for the exam from the official website.
