National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) is conducted by CoA since 2006 as a single entrance window for admission to a first year architecture course. The national level exam is a common aptitude test in Architecture to facilitate institutions, students and the public for admissions to the first year of five year B.Arch program in all the recognized institutes across the country. The purpose is to avoid any multiple-aptitude tests for the course admission.
Conducting Body: The Council of Architecture (COA) is a body incorporated by the Government of India under the provisions of the Architects Act, 1972, established by the Parliament of India, which came into force on 1 September 1972. The Act gives registration of Architects, norms of education, acknowledged qualifications and measures of training to be complied with by the practicing architects. The Council of Architecture is appointed with the duty to manage the education and training of profession throughout India besides managing the register of architects. For this purpose, the Government of India has drafted Rules and the Council of Architecture has devised Regulations as given in the Architects Act, with the permission of the Government of India.

Exam Pattern: The examination is conducted in offline as well as in online mode. The total time duration of the examination is 3 hours. The test paper is divided into 2 parts:- Part A and Part B:

Note:- There is no provision of negative marking.
Eligibility:
- Age Limit:- No age limit to appear in the examination. However, the candidates have to comply with the age requirements of the respective institutes.
- Educational Qualification:

(10+2) with 50% aggregate marks with Mathematics as one of the compulsory subjects. Or,

(10+3) Diploma in any subject with at least 50% aggregate marks with Mathematics. Or,

Candidates having an International Baccalaureate Diploma after completing the 10 years of Schooling with Mathematics are also eligible to apply for NATA.

FAQs:
Ques 1.Where and when do students take the NATA?
Ans. NATA can be given on any working day except national holidays. The NATA shall be conducted in only one attempt in April at designated Test Centers.
Ques 2. I am a foreign student / NRI. Is it possible to take the test from my country of residence?
Ans. No. The applicant will have to register in India and give the test from any of the designated. Test centres of his / her choice in India.
Ques 3. What is the validity of the NATA score?
Ans. NATA Scores are valid for one year only for admissions to B.Arch./B.Planning program.
Ques 4. I did not have Mathematics in my qualifying examination. Can I register or appear for NATA?
Ans. No, having Mathematics in 10+2 or Diploma program is necessary. Without this subject, you can not fill in the NATA Application Form.
Ques 5. Due to some unavoidable reasons, I will not be able to appear for NATA. Is there any provision of getting a refund of the application fee?
Ans. No, under no circumstances the application fee for the exam is refundable.
Ques 6. Is there any provision to reschedule the exam?
Ans. No, as the exam is conducted only on one day all over the country, rescheduling the examination is not possible.
Ques 7. Can I take the exam in some other city or center other than the one assigned by the Council?
Ans. Once the choice is made by CoA, no changes will be entertained.
Ques 8. Can I use a scale or any kind of instrument in the NATA Drawing Test?
Ans. No, the test has to be done freehand, therefore no use of a scale or any other instrument is prohibited.
Ques 9. What do I have to report early to the exam center?
Ans. Candidates are required to report at least 2 hours 30 minutes before the examination commences. This is because of the procedure to verify the candidate’s identity and taking the biometrics before the final allocation of the seat in the examination center. The entire process of verification will take a minimum of 2 hours if the centers are large.
Ques 10. Is bringing a calculator to the examination center allowed?
Ans. No, all the electronic devices including calculators, mobile phones etc. are prohibited inside the examination hall.
Ques 11. If I have completed my examination, can I leave the hall early?
Ans. No, candidates have to stay inside the examination hall until the examination concludes.
Ques 12. I am an NRI candidate and I do not have Aadhaar Card. What should I do?
Ans. In this case, you are required to provide your Passport Number.
Ques 13. Will there be any negative marking for incorrect answers?
Ans. No, there will be no negative marking for unanswered or incorrect answers.
Ques 14. Are there any centers in foreign cities? And is the examination fee different for the exam center?
Ans. Yes, the exam will also be conducted in Dubai. Candidates opting for Dubai as their exam center have to pay an additional fee of INR 8000.
Ques 15. Is it required to send the hard copy of filled in the application form
Ans. No, candidates need not send any hard copies to the exam conducting authorities. The entire application process will be online.
Ques 16. What if two candidates secure the same rank in the test?
Ans. In case, two candidates securing similar marks and appearing for counseling, preference will be given to the candidates having higher marks in the qualifying academic exam.
