NID Design Aptitude Test also known as NID DAT is a way for aspirants to get shortlisted for admission in UG and PG design courses provide at the prestigious National Institute of Design (NID) campuses. Candidates need to clear two NID admission tests in order to be eligible for admission in Bachelor of Design (BDes), Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD) and Master of Design (MDes) courses provide at its campuses.
About Conducting Body: The National Institute of Design (NID) held the NID Design Aptitude Test every year at the national level for admissions to various programs offered by the different campuses of the institute situated in India. The following mentioned detail is regarding Bachelor of Design (BDes).

Selection Procedure:- The selection procedure is divided into the following two phases:

NID DAT - Prelims.
-
NID DAT - Mains.
- NID DAT - Prelims:- The NID DAT (Preliminary) examination is a Written Aptitude Test of Design. The examination has both Objective and Subjective type questions. The preliminary examination is of 100 marks and is divided into 2 parts: Part I and Part II. The total time duration is 3 hours.

- NID DAT - Mains:- The candidates shortlisted from the Preliminary examination is called for the Mains examination. The mains examination have the following two phases:

Studio Test: The studio test shall consist of questions which the applicants must solve in different format like sketching/drawing, model making, presentations, group discussions, etc. The total duration of the studio test is 3 hours and carry a maximum of 100 marks. The medium of instruction of the Mains examination is English Language.

Personal Interview: The shortlisted candidates from the Studio Test are called for the Personal Interview round and the interview is held separately for each specialisation after the studio test.
