UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) organize the CAPF (Assistant Commandant) exam for the employment of eligible and desiring aspirants for the post of Assistant Commandants in Central Armed Police Forces. After selection, the aspirants are placed as Group A, Assistant Commandants in one of the seven central security forces acting under the authority of the Home Ministry of the Government of India. These security organizations are the ITBP, Assam Rifles, CRPF, CISF, SSB, NSG and BSF. Desiring applicants can apply for the exam online through the official website. This exam is organized yearly.

UPSC - CAPF (AC) Exam Selection Procedure:- The CAPF (AC) Exam 2019 consist of three main stages:
-
Written Exam
-
Medical Test
-
Interview / Personality Test.
The candidate needs to qualify each of these stages to be selected.
UPSC - CAPF (AC) Exam Pattern:
Written Exam:- The offline written examination is conducted in two phases i.e., Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper 1 is of objective nature and Paper-2 is of descriptive nature.
The candidates must score the minimum cut off mark (to be decided by UPSC) in order for their Paper 2 answers to be evaluated. The following table gives a brief idea:

Note:- There is a provision of negative marking for the first paper. 1/3rd of the marks deducted.
Interview: The interview carries 150 marks. The applicants who manage to qualify the Medical Standards Test are considered eligible for the Interview round. The applicants who fill the DAF (Detailed Application Form) and download the e-summon letter on time are called for the interview.

Note: Pregnancy at the time of PET gets disqualification and Pregnant candidates get rejected.
Final Selection:-
The final selection of the applicants depends on his/her combined performance in the written as well as in the interview. The final merit list is prepared on a scale of 600 marks (200 for Paper-1+250 for Paper-2 and 150 for interview).

Paper II: Essay, General Studies, and Comprehension:

Part A - Essay type questions are to be answered in either Hindi or English and the total marks are 80 marks. The main topics are Modern Indian History, Polity, Geography, Economy, Security and Human Rights Issues and Analytical Ability.

Part B - Comprehension, precis writing, other communications/language skills must be attempted in English only (Marks 120). The topics are Comprehension Passages, Precis Writing, Developing Counter Arguments, Grammar and other aspects of language testing.

Ques 2. Is the Assistant Commandant a Gazetted officer?
Ans. It includes in group A Gazetted officer rank of the Central Armed Police Forces of India. Assistant commandants in the Central Armed Police Forces are appointed through the UPSC selection process and are called Directly Appointed Gazetted Officers.
Ques 3. Which category is exempted for examination fee payment?
Ans., Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD), SC/ST and Female candidates categories belonging candidates are exempted from payment of Examination Fee.
Ques 4. What action the Commission can take in case of submission of false information by the applicants
Ans. If any applicants adopting various unfair, false information, means in the examination like cheating, impersonation etc, is liable to be disqualified and/or debarred from writing UPSC examinations as decided by the Commission.
Ques 5. Does CAPF AC get a pension?
Ans. The Seventh Pay Commission has recommended, One Pension formula for their pensioners, One Rank. Other than a pension, the uniform retirement age for all paramilitary forces personnel at 60 years has been suggested by the pay panel.
Ques 6. Is there any requirement for original documents?
Ans. Candidates applying for the exam must ensure that they fulfill eligibility conditions for appearing in the Examination. Verification of original documents is taken up only after the candidate has qualified for Interview/Personality Test.

Ques 13. Is Tattoo allowed in the CAPF exam?
Ans. India being a secular country, the religious sentiments are to be respected so tattoos depicting religious symbols/figures are to be permitted. Tattoos marks must be on traditional sites of the body like inner aspect of forearm but only left forearm, being non saluting limb or dorsum of the hands, are to be allowed. The size of the tattoo must not be more than 1/4th of the particular part (Elbow or Hand) of the body.
Ques 14. Do candidates possessing NCC 'B' or 'C' Certificates get any consideration in the exam?
Ans. Possession of NCC 'B' or 'C' Certificate is a desirable qualification. These qualifications are given consideration at the time of Interview/Personality Test only.
Ques 15. Can a candidate fill UPSC form twice?
Ans. Yes. He/she can change optional paper, medium, choice of location. They can fill as many times as they wish. But UPSC considers lastest filled form only and rest all are considered null and void.
