The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) organizes the NDA/NA examination. The applicants qualifying for the examination get entry in the Army, Air Force and the Naval Academies. The exam consists of two stages. The first stage of the exam is a written test after which the Service Selection Board (SSB) conducts an interview with the qualified aspirants to select the suitable aspirants. Applicants eager to appear in the exam can apply online through the official website. This exam is organized twice in a year.

UPSC NDA/NA Selection Procedure:- The NDA & NA Exam (II) Consist of two major stages:-

Written Examination
Interview

The selection of the candidates purely depends on merit which is based on the performance in the above-mentioned rounds.

UPSC NDA/NA Exam Pattern:

Written Examination:- The written exam consists of two parts:-

Code 1(Mathematics)
Code 2 (General Ability Test)

The detailed exam pattern of the written test is as follows:

Note:- There is a provision of 0.33% negative marking for each wrong answer in the written examination. The mode of instruction for the examination is in English and Hindi languages.

Interview:- The personal interview held by the Service Selection Board (SSB) carries 900 marks. The purpose of the interview is to test the suitability of the candidate for the profile.

Final Selection:- The final selection of the applicants depends on his/her performance in the written as well as in the interview. The final merit list shall be prepared on the basis of the combined performance of the candidate in the written and interview, on a scale of 1800 marks.

UPSC Intelligence and Personality Test for NDA/NA Exam:

This procedure is two stage selection process: Stage I and Stage II. Candidates after qualifying Stage I are eligible for Stage II.

UPSC NDA/NA Eligibility Criteria:-

Nationality: Must be a citizen of India,
Age Limit:- should not be less than 16years and more than 19years. Only unmarried male candidates can apply for NDA.
Educational Qualification:- the minimum qualification required for the various wings of the army is as follows:-

- For Army Wing of NDA- 10+2 or equivalent examination from any recognized board.

- For Air Force & Naval of NDA and 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at the Indian Naval Academy- 10+2 or equivalent with Mathematics and physics subjects.

Physical Standards: As per the physical standards notified by the officials, applicants have to be physically fit.

Ques 1. How can I fill the form online?

Ans. The Form can be filled online by logging on to the official website and visiting the home page of the Online Recruitment Form(ORA).

Ques 2. How can I apply online for the recruitment mentioned in the advertisement by the Commission?

Ans. The applicants can register by clicking the 'New Registration' link on the home page of the ORA website. After registering successfully, a registration ID is sent to the candidate on the registered number. Now, applicants can click on the 'Apply Now' link given on the recruitment website for filling the online form.

Ques 3. Is there any detailed instruction to guide the applicant for submitting an online form?

Ans. Yes, there is a link 'Instructions to the candidates for filling Online Recruitment form' displaying on the 'Existing Vacancies' page of the ORA website.

Ques 4. Which category is exempted from payment of Fee?

Ans. Candidates belonging to SC/ST/ Physically Handicapped/ all Female candidates are exempted from fee payment. Other than these categories, fee payment is mandatory for all applicants.

Ques 5. What should be the scanned photograph and size for the signature?

Ans. The applicant should scan his/her signature with a black pen that should be put on the white sheet.

Ques 6. Is there a reservation for girls in UPSC?

Ans. No, there is no such reservation for women. Reservations are only on the basis of OBC/SC/ST/PWD. Reservation is there for women in the Panchyati Raj elections.

Ques 7. Which rank is given after NDA?

Ans. The rank given in these three branches is different. For the Indian Navy the first rank after NDA is SUB LIEUTENANT, for the Indian Air Force first rank is given is PILOT OFFICER and for the Indian Army first rank is LIEUTENANT.

Ques 8.Do candidates make changes in their applications after the form submission?

Ans. No, changes can be made after submission so applications once submitted are final. However, in case an applicant has already submitted an application with incorrect entries, he can submit a fresh application within the closing date with correct entries and a fresh fee, which supersedes his previous application(s). Thereafter, the application submitted later.

Ques 9. I have made multiple payments through Credit/Debit card. Whether the extra amount paid gets refunded back?

Ans. Yes, extra payments made by an applicant against an application number get refunded automatically within 3-4 days.

Ques 10. Is it possible to change the Date of Birth once submitted in the form?

Ans. No, The Commission does not allow change of Date of Birth that has been furnished by a candidate

Ques 11. Does the non-filling up of Part II affect the submitted form?

Ans. If only PART I of the application is submitted without submitting PART II, the application remains incomplete and candidate cannot be registered. even if the applicant has submitted PART I and paid fee also but has not completed PART II i.e. failed to submit Centre, photograph, signature and photo ID card, the application is considered incomplete.

Ques 12. I have submitted the Online Recruitment Application. Do I have to send the printout of the application to the UPSC by post/by hand also?

Ans. No, you are not required to send the printout of the application to the UPSC by post/by hand. However, you have to bring the printout of your Online Application along with other documents if you get shortlisted for the interview, for which you are informed separately.

Ques 13. What percentage is required for NDA?

Ans. No percentage of marks is required for applying for NDA. 10+2 passed with any stream for the army is acceptable. Only passing marks are necessary for applying in NDA.

Ques 14. Is PCM necessary for NDA?

Ans. NDA stands for National Defence Academy. PCM is not compulsory for applying NDA Exam. Commerce or Arts student are also eligible to apply for NDA Exam. But they are allowed to apply for the Army Wing of NDA only.

Ques 15. Does a girl give NDA exam?

Ans. Only unmarried male candidates are eligible for the NDA examination. Female candidates are not allowed for the NDA entrance examination. If a female candidate is interested in joining Defense, then they can successfully do so by qualifying the Combined Defense Service(CDS)-Officers Training Academy exams.
