Overview

The All India Bar Examination, also known as AIBE, is a national level law exam conducted by the Bar Council of India to assess the candidate's analytical abilities and a basic understanding of the law. Bar Council of India conducts AIBE twice in a year for law graduates and provisionally enrolled advocates.

Bar Council of India awards the Certificate of Practice to candidates who clear the bar exam with minimum marks which are 40% (35% marks for SC/ST). The candidates not clearing the AIBE exam remain enrolled as provisional advocates with their State Bar Council and not practicing lawyers. To appear for the AIBE exam is mandatory for Law students who have completed their degree in the year of 2010 & onwards. The certificate is granted to the candidates after they qualify the following test:-

AIBE is an open book test. The examination is conducted in Offline mode and Objective mode. The total time duration of the examination is 03 hours 30 minutes and have 100 questions. The examination is conducted in 11 Languages. The detailed exam pattern is as follows:-

- Age Limit:- 

  • Candidates, irrespective of their age, can apply for AIBE. There is no age limit.

  • Candidates are also advised to refer to the website regarding the same.

- Educational Qualification:

  • Candidates must have qualified LLB (03/05 year) from any Institution/University recognized by Bar Council of  India.

  • Candidates appearing for the exam must be enrolled with their respective State Bar Council as an advocate, under Section 24(1)(f) of Advocates Act, 1961.
