Overview

Andhra Pradesh State Eligibility Test (APSET) is organized by the Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, in accordance with G.O. Ms.Higher Education (CE) Department and Accreditation of UGC, New Delhi. Andhra University was originated in the year 1926 by the Madras University Act.This exam is held with the purpose of hiring eligible applicants for the posts of Assistant Professors in Universities and Degree Colleges as per the UGC Regulations.

Andhra Pradesh State Eligibility Test (APSET) Eligibility Criteria:

Education Qualification:

(i)Applicants securing a minimum of 55% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s Degree or equivalent examination from universities/institutions recognized by UGC are qualified for this Test. The Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/persons with disability (PwD) category candidates who have secured at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s degree or equivalent examination are eligible for this Test. 

(ii) Applicants who are in their Master’s degree or equivalent course or applicants who have given their qualifying Master’s degree (final year) exam and whose result is still expected or applicants whose qualifying examinations have been delayed may also give the test. But, such applicants will be accepted temporarily and shall be considered qualified for the award of eligibility for Assistant Professor only after they have passed their Master’s Degree OR equivalent exam with a minimum of 55% marks (50% marks in case of BC/SC/ ST/PwD level candidates). Such candidates must finish their Master's degree or equivalent exam within 2 years from the date of SET result with the necessary percentage of marks, failing which they shall be treated as disqualified.

(iii) Applicants applying to the transgender category are eligible to draw the same relaxation in fee, age and qualifying criteria for SET (i.e. Assistant Professor) as are available to SC/ST/PwD categories. The subject wise cut off for this category should be the lowest among those for SC/ST/PwD/BC categories in a similar subject. 

(iv) The Ph.D.degree holders whose Master’s level exam have been completed by 19th September 1991.

(v) Candidates are notified to appear in the subject of their Post Graduation only. The applicants, whose Post Graduation subject is not included in the list of SET subjects may appear in a related subject

(vi) Applicants are not bound to send any certificates/documents in support of their eligibility or any printout of their Application Form (Confirmation Page) to APSET office. Nevertheless the candidates, in their interest, must inveigle themselves about their eligibility for the Test. In the event of any ineligibility being caught by the APSET at any stage, their candidature will be revoked and they shall be accountable for judicial litigation. 

(vii) Applicants with postgraduate diploma/certificate bestowed by Indian University/ Institute or foreign degree/diploma/certificate conferred by the foreign University/ institute should in their own interest, ascertain the parity of their diploma/degree/ certificate with Master’s degree of recognized Indian universities from Association of Indian Universities (AIU), NewDelhi 

(viii) The able applicants are eligible to apply for the post of Assistant Professor only in the universities/ colleges located in the Andhra Pradesh state from where they have passed their SET. 

(ix) The applicants who have qualified earlier in APSET /UGC NET are not suitable to apply in the same subject they qualified.

Age limit: There is no higher age limit for applying for qualification for the test.

Research Aptitude: Research: Meaning, Characteristics, and types, Steps of research, workshop, seminar, conference and symposium, Methods of research, Research Ethics, Paper, the article, Thesis writing: its characteristics and format.

Reading Comprehension: A passage to be set with questions to answer.

Communication: Types, nature characteristics, barriers and effective classroom communication.

Logical Reasoning:  Evaluating and distinguishing deductive and inductive reasoning, Understanding the structure of arguments, Verbal analogies, word analogy-Applied analogy, Verbal classification.

Reasoning Logical Diagrams: Multi diagrammatic relationship,  Simple diagrammatic relationship,Venn diagram, Analytical Reasoning.

Information and Communication Technology (ICT): ICT: meaning, advantages, disadvantages and uses,, Basics of the internet and email,General abbreviations, and terminology

People and Environment: People and environment interaction; Sources of pollution; , exploitation of natural and energy resources,Pollutants and their impact on human life, Natural hazards, and mitigation.

Higher Education System: Governance, Polity and Administration Structure of the Institutions for higher learning and research in India; governance,professional/technical and general education, polity, and administration; formal and distance education;  education; concept, institutions and their interactions.

Ques 1. Does I apply again for AP SET in the same subject?

Ans: Applicants who have passed earlier in AP SET/ UGC NET are not qualified to apply in the same subject they qualified.

Ques 2. I have done M.TECH in Electronics. Am I eligible for AP SET?

Ans. Yes,Applicants securing a minimum of 55% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s Degree or equivalent examination from universities/institutions recognised by UGC are qualified for this Test.

Ques 3. Is there any mark relaxation for the reserved category? 

Ans. Applicants with a reserved category will be given 5% relaxation.

Ques 4. Is there any negative marking in the exam?

Ans. You get +2 for the correct answer. There is no negative marking.

Ques 5. I have completed M.TECH in Electronics. For which subject can I apply in the AP SET exam?

Ans. Applicants are instructed to appear in the subject which is the same as their subject of post-graduation. However, if their subject of postgraduation is not in SET subjects list, then they should appear in a related subject.

Ques 6. When do I submit my documents to apply for AP SET exam?

Ans. The candidates are not supposed to submit their documents during online application form filling or otherwise. Once the result is announced, qualified candidates are asked to submit the certificate for verification.

Ques 7. Is there any Valid Period for APSET Certificate?

Ans. The valid period of the certificate is forever.

Ques 8. How many times can I apply for the exam?

Ans. Applicants who have passed earlier in APSET /UGC NET are not eligible to apply in the same subject they qualified.

Ques 9. I have a Post Graduate Diploma in Management, can I apply for the AP SET exam?

Ans. Candidates having post-graduate diplomas/certificates are also qualified to fill in the APSET Application form.

Ques 10. What is the size of the scanned photo, signature and other documents?

Ans: Applicant must upload a scanned photograph, signature, and caste/disability certificate if relevant in jpg/jpeg format only. The size of the photograph should be within 15 kb to 50 kb, Signature should be within 5 kb to 20 kb and certificates should be within 50kb to 200kb.
