Overview

TNTET is organized by Tamil Nadu Teachers Recruitment Board (TN TRB). It is a state level exam. The purpose of this exam is to hire eligible teachers for Primary and Upper Primary levels in the state of Tamil Nadu. The exam comprises of 2 papers viz. Paper 1 (for classes I to V) and Paper 2 (for classes VI to VIII). This exam gives a good opportunity to eligible applicants to make their careers as teachers in the state of Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Nadu Teachers Eligibility Test Conducting Body:

The Government of Tamilnadu has established the Teachers’ Recruitment Board to administer multiple Tests for the selection of applicants under diverse sectors such as Secondary Grade Teachers etc. Following the guidelines of the Right of Children to Free and Mandatory Education Act 2009, the TRB took up the obligation of carrying out the TNTET (Tamilnadu Teacher Eligibility Test) from 2012 onwards

Tamil Nadu Teachers Eligibility Test Selection Procedure:

Candidates will be shortlisted from the score secured in the TNTET 2019. The final list is prepared based on the category wise cut off marks.Multiple choice type questions are asked in the exam. Each question is for one mark and there is no negative marking. There are two papers in the exam i.e. Paper I and Paper II in which 150 questions are. Candidates have to complete the exam in 1 and a half hours.

Tamil Nadu Teachers Eligibility Test Eligibility Criteria:

Educational Qualification:

The candidates should pass the upper Secondary examination with at least 50 marks.

It is a relaxation of 45 marks if the applicants belong to a reserved class.

1.  Senior Secondary/Higher Secondary (or it's equivalent 10+2) with a minimum 50% score and 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.EI.ED)

OR

2  Senior Secondary/Higher Secondary (or it's equivalent 10+2) with a minimum 50% result and 4 years Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.EI.ED).

OR

3. Higher Secondary/Senior Secondary (or it's equivalent 10+2) with a minimum 50% score and having a Diploma in Education (Special Education), approved by the Rehabilitation Council of India(RCI.

OR

4. 2year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.EI.ED) or Graduation. 

Age Criteria: Applicants should be between 18 to 35 years.

Child Development Pedagogy: Child Development (Primary School Children): Understanding Children with the special needs, Concept of Inclusive Education and Learning Pedagogy

Mathematics: Shapes, Algebra, Mensuration, Geometry, Arithmetic, Numbers and Spatial Understanding

Language I: Perception-based questions for language development

Language II (English): Understanding based question in English and advancement of language

Social Sciences/Social Studies: Social and Political Life Geography, History etc

Environmental Studies:Habitats,Water, Natural Resources, Solar System, Air, Parts of Body, Food Resource and Care, Our Surroundings

Ques 1. Can a BCA student apply for TN TET?

Ans. No, besides graduation, the candidates must also have done B.Ed/B.El.Ed from a recognized university.

Ques 2. I have completed B. Sc Microbiology, am I eligible?

Ans. To be eligible for the course, it is expected that along with the graduation, the applicants must have done a teaching course. Thus, you are not eligible. 

Ques 3. What is the number of attempts I can appear for the exam?

Ans: There is no limitation on the number of trials a person can take to pass TN TET. A person who has qualified TN  TET may also reappear for improving his/her score.

Ques 4. What are the minimum marks to qualify?

Ans: TN  TET Qualifying Marks

  1. For category except SC/ST/Differently abled/ PH - 60% (90/150)

  2. For SC/ST/Differently abled/ PH - 55% (83/150)

Ques 5. I have done a diploma in elementary education may I eligible for secondary teacher exam?

Ans: Yes you are eligible. The candidate who has Senior Secondary / Higher Secondary (or it's equivalent 10+2) with a minimum of 50% marks and has finished a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.EI.ED) can apply.

Ques 6. What is the minimum score to qualify the exam?

Ans: Candidates need to score a minimum of 60% marks in TN TET to qualify in the examination.

Ques 7. Is a B.Com B.Ed student eligible for the TN TET?

Ans: If you have 4 years of Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.EI.ED) degree than you are eligible for TN TET.

Ques 8. What type of question can I expect in the Paper-II of the TNTET exam? 

Ans: The questions in the tests for Paper II will be based on the subjects of the prescribed syllabus of the TN State for classes VI-VIII but the difficulty standard could be up to the senior secondary stage.

Ques 9. What is the valid period of the TN TET passing certificate?

Ans: The valid period of the TN TET qualifying certificate is seven years for all the categories.  

Ques 10. I want to apply for TN TET. So, I need to know about the age limit?

Ans: Age limit to apply for TN TET:

  • General male and female- 35 years.

  • OBC male and female-38 years.

  • SC / ST male and female-42 years.

However, relaxation of 3 years is given to OBC applicants and 5 years to SC/ ST applicants.
