Overview
The UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) Combined Medical Service exam is held for the employment of eligible and desiring applicants for the posts of Medical Officers in various organizations such as Indian Ordnance Factories, Indian Railways, Municipal Corporation of Delhi, New Delhi Municipal Corporation. Desiring applicants can apply for the exam online through the official website. This exam is a National Level exam and is organized yearly.

The UPSC is India's Premiere Recruiting Agency for All India Services and Group 'A' and 'B' officers for Central Services. UPSC or Union Public Service Commission conducts the Combined Medical Service exam every year for aspiring applicants.

Computer Based Examination: The Computer Based Examination is an objective type examination consisting of two papers each of 250 marks:-

Paper 1 consists of questions from General Medicine and Paediatrics. There are 120 questions with a time duration of 2 hours.

Paper 2 consists of questions from Surgery, Gynaecology & Obstetrics and Preventive & Social Medicine. There are 120 questions with a time duration of 2 hours.

UPSC - Combined Medical Service Exam (CMS) FAQs:
Ques 1. Which format is acceptable for the scanned photograph and signature?
Ans. The photograph and signature should be scanned in the .jpg format.
Ques 2. Is it mandatory to fill up the details related to Area Pin Code/Phone No. with Area code/Mobile No./e-mail?
Ans. Area PIN code is mandatory to be filled in by the candidate, the rest of the above indicated particulars are optional. However, it is advisable to fill these particulars so that an applicant is easily accessible if required by the Commission.
Ques 3. Is it mandatory to fill both the parts i.e. part-I and part-II of the CMS application?
Ans. Yes, it is mandatory to fill up both the parts or else the application gets rejected.
Ques 4. What action the Commission can take in case of submission of false information by the applicants?
Ans. If applicants found producing false information, adopting various unfair means in the examination like impersonation, cheating, etc., is liable to be disqualified and/or debarred from writing UPSC examinations. In this regard, a detailed stipulation is incorporated in the examination Notice.
Ques 5. What is the procedure to pay the fee for the CMS exam?
Ans. There are three options for the payment of the fee:

by Cash in any branch of State Bank of India,

by credit/debit card and
-
by Net Banking facility of SBI.
Ques 6. Which category is exempted from payment of examination fee?
Ans. Female candidates, Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) and SC/ST categories belonging candidates are exempted from payment of Examination Fee.
Ques 7. What is the standard of the examination?
Ans. Both the Papers of the CMSE will be of MBBS standard.
Ques 8. What precautions are to be taken by a candidate while filling up the Online Application Form?
Ans. Please read the instructions carefully before filling up the Online Application Form.

Ques 10. What are the eligibility criteria for the exam?
Ans. The candidate must have done MBBS with an internship from any recognized medical colleges in India.
Ques 11. Can a candidate fill UPSC form twice?
Ans. Yes. He/she can change optional paper, medium, choice of location. They can fill as many times as they wish. But UPSC considers lastest filled form only and rest all are considered null and void.
Ques 12. Candidates from which Nations are eligible to apply?
Ans. Following nationality belonging candidates are eligible to apply:

Indian Citizen.

Candidates of Nepal, Bhutan or Tibetan Refugees (migrated to India before 1st January 1962)
-
Indian Origin candidates from Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Vietnam, Burma or East Africa (Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Malawi, and Zaire).
Ques 13. What are the provisions for reservation for SC, ST, OBC, EWS and PwBD candidates?
Ans. Reservation is for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/ PwBD/EWS category in respect of vacancies as may be fixed by the Government.
Ques 14. How much time is given to the candidates to apply online?
Ans. The time is always mentioned in the Examination Notice. A candidate gets at least 3 weeks' time to apply.
Ques 15. When are the e-Admit Cards issued?
Ans. The e-Admit Cards are issued for eligible candidates around three weeks before the examination. The e-Admit Cards are made available on the UPSC website for downloading by the candidates and not sent by post.
