Overview
Gujarat Provincial Civil Services (GPCS) exam is organized by the Gujarat Public Service Commission (GPSC). The purpose of this exam is to hire eligible applicants for numerous posts in the Ministries and departments in Government of Gujarat. Desiring applicants can apply for the exam in online mode through the official website. The exam is organized yearly.

The exam is held in three phases-

Gujarat Provincial Civil Services (GPCS) Pattern:-
Preliminary Exam:- The preliminary examination is of qualifying nature and is conducted Offline. The preliminary examination consists of Objective type questions.

Mains Exam:- The candidates who are shortlisted from the preliminary examination are allowed to sit for the mains examination. The GPSC Mains examination consists 6 papers in the Mains Examination. The first 2 papers are of Gujarati and English Languages respectively.The third paper consists of questions on which candidates write essays. The last three papers have questions from general studies. The exam pattern is as follows:-

Interview:- The interview carries 100 marks and these marks are taken into consideration for deciding the final merit list. The candidates who are shortlisted from the mains examinations are called for the interviews.

Ques 1. From where can applicants get the information regarding the exam?
Ans. From the Official website or from the website of the commission.
Ques 2. How can applicants apply for Gujarat PCS?
Ans. Applicants can apply for a post Online through Official site.
Ques 3. For how many different posts is a candidate eligible to apply in one recruitment?
Ans. A Candidate is eligible to apply for more than one post but the application must be separately applied for each post and the payment must be separate made.
Ques 4. Is it possible to apply offline for this recruitment?
Ans. No. The applications can be filled Online only.
Ques 5. What precautions should be taken by a candidate while filling up the Online Application Form?
Ans. Please read the instructions attentive before filling up the Online Application Form.
Ques 6. Does a candidate edit the details after submission of the application?
Ans. A candidate can not edit any information after submission of the application in the Commission.
Ques 7. In which size the scanned photograph and signature can be uploaded?
Ans. The format should be 'jpg' format and the size of the scanned photo and signature must not be more than 15kb.
Ques 8. How can candidates pay the application fee?
Ans. The payment can be made through e-Payment or through Post Office using post office challan.
Ques 9. Is it compulsory to send the printout of the submitted application to the Commission by the post/hand?
Ans. No, there is no such requirement.
Ques 10. Can a candidate deposit exam fee at any Post Office in India?
Ans. No. The payment can be made only at e-payment enable Post Offices in Gujarat.
Ques 11. What is the Educational criteria to apply for the exam?
Ans. Candidate must be graduate from the university recognised by the UGC, AICTE etc.
Ques 12. How many attempts does a candidate get for GPSC?
Ans. There is no such limit on attempts but the age criteria must be followed.
Ques 13. Can a candidate appearing in the last year of Graduation apply for the exam?
Ans. Yes, final year student is eligible to apply for the exam.
Ques 14. Is there any provision of negative marking?
Ans. 1/3 of the total allotted mark should be deducted.
Ques 15. Is there any optional subjects in the exam?
Ans. From 2017 the optional subject has been removed from GPSC exam.
