The HCS Exam/Haryana Civil Services Examination is conducted by the Haryana Public Service Commission (Haryana PCS) to recruit on the basis of a competitive examination. It is also known as Haryana Civil Services Exam.
Conducting body: The State of Haryana came into existence under the provisions of Punjab Reorganization Act, 1966 (No. 31 of 1966), which is also coincides with the date when the Haryana Public Service Commission also came into existence

Exam Pattern:
Stage 1: The Preliminary Examination (Objective Type/ Multiple Choice) is only for screening purposes only. The Pre exam consists of 2 tests of objective type (MCQ) and it carries a maximum of 200 marks as under.

Stage 2: The Mains Examination (Conventional Essay Type): The candidates qualified in Stage 1 (normally twelve times of the vacancies advertised) are allowed to take the Main Examination.

Eligibility Criteria:
-
Educational qualification: Aspiring candidates must possess a Bachelor degree of a recognized University.
-
Age Limits: The candidates should not be below 21 years of age and not more than 42 years of age (on 1st January of the year of examination.
-
Age Relaxation: Upper age limit is relaxable up to 5 years for the candidates belonging to the following categories:-
(a) SC, Special Backward Classes, Economically Backward Persons and Backward Classes (General Category) of Haryana only.
(b) Un-married female candidates of Haryana State only.
(c) Candidates working for Haryana Government (other than adhoc capacity) of Punjab and Haryana High Court or any Court subordinate to it in Haryana state with four years of experience in officiating or substantive or capacity subject to a limit of three chances in addition to those which he might have availed within the prescribed age limit. The Employees of the Corporations/ BanksBoards/ Universities/ etc.are not eligible for concession in the upper age limit.
(d) Companions of those Women who have been ordered by civil/criminal courts to pay the allowances to them; women whose husbands have remarried; dowagers; women who are legally separated from their husbands and who are divorced; women living separately from their husbands for more than two years because of divorce; wives of serving injured military personnel and widows of those who were executed in action. Women living separately from their partners due to divorce will be required to submit with their application a legal affirmation to the effect that she has been abandoned by her spouse and has been living independently from him for more than 2 years and this affidavit should be authorised by two responsible persons such as members of the Legislature, the Local Bodies and the Bar Association including Panchayats. However, where a woman who has remarried, she would not be eligible for the above concession in the matter of age limit.
i. Age relaxation for PH candidates of Haryana:-
The upper age limit is relaxable for PH category aspirants of Haryana by 10 years (15 years for SCs / BCs of Haryana).
ii. Additionally, the upper age relaxation is as under:-
a. Higher age limit is also relaxable for an ex - military person if he joined military service before or after the announcement of emergency to the extent of his military service added by 3 years provided he had presented consistent military service for a period of not less than 6months before his release and further given that he had been released contrarily than by way of dismissal or discharge on account of incompetence or wrongdoing.
b. The persons who were hired from 01/01/1963 onwards as whole time Cadet Instructors in the N.C.C. and who are discharged after the expiry of their initial/extended tenure will also be authorized to relaxation in age limit for purpose of employment under the State Government.
c. It is made clear that the dependent of ESM candidates will be regarded as General Category applicants for all intentions and purposes
Syllabus:

It consists of two papers i.e. General Studies & General Aptitude.
General Studies Paper: It includes the following subjects:

Ques 1. Is HPS or HCS (Haryana Civil Service) easy?
Ans. The test is easy and depends on the kind of practice you do. Writing practice is essential. The questions are straight forward.
Ques 2. How can I prepare for Haryana civil services?
Ans. From 2018, Haryana Civil services is a three-stage selection process, as Prelims - 2 paper (General Studies and Aptitude Test of 100 marks each), Mains - 5 papers (General Studies, English, Hindi, Subject 1 and Subject 2) Personality Test The only difference in a state PCS is the enhanced focus on the state. The rest of the method is almost similar to the UPSC.
Ques 3. When is Haryana civil services paper held?
Ans. Tentatively the exam is scheduled to be held in October. So students can expect it to be held between October to December.
Ques 4. What is the best study material for the preparation of the Haryana Civil Services Exam?
Ans. The preparation for Haryana Civil Services can be done with the same resources as for the Civil Services Exam.The level of the paper ranges from easy to moderate. The only extra thing you need to do is to study for sources particularly for Haryana GK. In the paper, approximately 30 to 40 questions come are from the state GK.
Ques 5. What are the jobs I can get after passing the HPSC?
Ans. Through the HPSC you can get selected to the State Civil Service and State Police Service.
Ques 6. How many more times can I give Haryana Civil Services Examination if I apply for this year and don't pass?
Ans. There are no such restrictions mentioned anywhere by the Haryana Public Service Commission, which means you can appear for the exam until you reach the maximum age limit. The maximum age limit to be eligible for Haryana Civil Service Exam is 40 years.
Ques 7. What is the minimum qualification required to apply to Haryana Civil Service?
Ans. Graduation is the minimum criterion to apply for the Haryana Civil Service exam. Candidates applying for the HSC should have completed his/her graduation from a recognized institute in any subject. The minimum age limit recommended for the HCS exam is 21 years. The maximum age limit is 40 years (except for DSP post). Age relaxation is provided to reserved categories. Only those candidates are selected who clears the written examination followed by personal interview.
