Overview
West Bengal State Eligibility Test is organized by the West Bengal College Service Commission. This exam is held for the employment of eligible applicants for the post of Assistant Professors and Lecturers in the Universities in the state of West Bengal. The examination is conducted across 20 different cities & in 30 various subjects. The exam involves MCQ types & it has 3 papers.
West Bengal State Eligibility Test Conducting Body:
The West Bengal College Service Commission was founded in 1979 by an Act passed in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. Its main duties are to pick and recommend Principals, Assistant Professors, Librarians to all (nearly 450) the Government aided Colleges in West Bengal, as well as to handle the State Eligibility Test (SET). The Act of 1979 was amended in 2017 and 2012.

The applicant’s election is based on the achievement in the WB SET Entrance Exam administered by the West Bengal College Service Commission (WBCSC).

West Bengal State Eligibility Test Eligibility Criteria:
Educational Qualifications:

Candidates who have secured at least 55% marks in Master's Degree OR equivalent examination from Universities/Institutions recognized by UGC are eligible for this Test. The Other Backward Classes(OBC) belonging to non creamy layer/Scheduled Caste(SC)/Scheduled Tribe(ST)/ persons with disability(PwD) category applicants who have secured at least 50% marks in Master degree or equivalent examination are eligible for this Test.

Applicants who are in their Master's degree who have given their qualifying Master degree (final year) examinationt. Nevertheless, such applicants shall be regarded qualified for Assistant Professor only after they have passed their Master DegreeOR equivalent examination with minimum 55% marks [50% marks in case of OBC falling in Non creamy layer/SC/PwD/ST/ (persons with disability) category applicants].

Candidates belonging to the third gender in other words transgender would be acceptable to draw the same relaxation in fee and fitting criteria for SET as are available to PwD/SC/ST/ categories.

The applicants holding a Ph.D. degree and whose Master level examination had been finished by 19th September 1991(irrespective of the date of announcement of result) shall be qualified for a relaxation of 5% in total marks (i.e. from 55% to 50%) for appearing in SET.

Applicants having postgraduate diploma/certificate granted by Indian University/Institute or foreign diploma/degree/certificate conferred by the foreign University/institute should, in their own interest, ascertain the equivalence of their certificate/ diploma/degree/with Master degree of approved Indian universities from Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi (www.aiu.ac.in).

Ques 1. Where are the examination centers in WB located?

Ques 2. I have 146 marks in commerce section and I am from the SEBC category. Is there any chance to apply for the exam?
Ans. No, OBC/ DT(VJ)/NT/SEBC/SBC/ [relating to non creamy layer] and PH/VH/SC/ST/VH Visually Handicapped i.e. Blind/Trans genders(PH Physically Handicapped), Orphan category applicants who have obtained at least 50% marks (without gracing or rounding off) in Master or equivalent examination are suitable for this test.
Ques 3. What is the minimum percentage for ST/SC candidate?
Ans: The minimum percentage for the reserved category such as SC/ST is 50%.
Ques 4. What are the eligibility criteria for the third gender candidate?
Ans: Candidates applying from the third gender in other words transgender category would be suitable to draw the same relaxation in fee, age and qualifying criteria for SET as are open for to SC/ST/PWD classification.
Ques 5. What is the size of the scanned photo, signature and other documents?
Ans: Applicants must upload a scanned photograph, signature, and caste/disability certificate if relevant in jpg/jpeg format only. The size of the photograph should be within 15 kb to 50 kb, Signature should be within 5 kb to 20 kb and certificates should be within 50kb to 200kb.
Ques 6. Is there any mark relaxation for Ph.D. degree holders?
Ans: Applicants with a Ph.D. degree and who have completed their Post Graduation before September 1992 are suitable for the relaxation of 5% in minimum mark limit. They should have a minimum of 50% in place of 55% marks.
Ques 7. What is the valid period of the WBSET passing certificate?
Ans: The valid period of the certificate for state only and for all future times.
Ques 8. When can we expect the result of the exam?
Ans: The authority usually announces the result after one month of the examination.
Ques 9. What are the facilities for physically challenged (PH) applicants?
Ans: The candidates having a PH certificate with a 40% disability or more shall be treated as a PH applicant and can avail the expected amenities meant for PH candidates in respect of WBSET.
Ques 10. Is there any negative marking in the exam?
Ans: There is no negative marking.
