Overview
The GMAT is a Graduate Management Admission Test which is an international level management entrance examination held by the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAC) for admissions into management courses such as Masters in Finance, MBA, and other management-related courses in top business schools across the world. 2,300 plus graduate business schools having more than 7,000 programs accept the GMAT as part of the selection criteria for their programs
Conducting Body: Established in 1953, The Graduate Management Admission Test is a standardized test conducted by the Graduate Management Admission Test or GMAC for the students who are seeking admission to Management courses. The GMAT is conducted throughout the year.

Selection Procedure: The applicants wishing to qualify GMAT must clear the following stage:

Written Test
Exam Pattern: The GMAT test is a computer adaptive test and the total duration of the test is 03 hours and 07 minutes. The exam consists of four sections namely 1)Analytical Writing Assessment; 2)Integrated Reasoning; 3)Quantitative Aptitude and 4)Verbal Section. The total no. of questions are 80. The detailed examination pattern is as follows:-

In the Analytical Writing Assessment, there is only 1 question that evaluates the ability of the candidate to understand, analyze and anticipate the reason behind the given argument.

The Quantitative Aptitude and Verbal Reasoning section have a basic level of questions.

Bachelor degree from any recognized institute/university. But the qualification criteria also depends on the applied institute.
Syllabus:
- Analytical Writing Assessment:

The section tests a candidate's thinking and ability to communicate ideas through writing and not the opinion.

Argument essay- analyze the reasoning and then present the argument. Candidates are judged on how well reasoned the given argument is.

Issue essay- Essay writing on the given issue and the opinion should be around 600 words.

The topics can be of general interest related to business and other subjects.
- Integrated Reasoning Syllabus: This section contains 12 questions of the following type:

Table Analysis: sort and analyze tabular data similar to spreadsheets to solve the questions.

Two-Part Analysis: Test the ability to solve complex questions on quantitative or verbal or a combination of both. The format covers a wide range of content and is versatile.

Multi-Source Reasoning: Test the ability to examine data given in the form of texts, tables, graphics or a combination of all three. Candidates are also asked to recognize discrepancies among different sources of data.

Graphics Interpretation: Test the ability to interpret data represented as graphs – bar graphs, pie charts, statistical curves etc.
- Quantitative Reasoning:

This section consists of questions from Mathematics.

Two types of questions are asked - 1) Problem Solving: solve general mathematics questions and 2)Data Sufficiency: analyze the quantitative problem using the given data.

Topics from which the questions are asked: Geometry, Elementary Algebra, Arithmetic, Ratio Proportions, Properties of Integers, Permutation and combinations, Exponents and roots, Linear equations etc.
- Verbal Reasoning Syllabus:

This sections test the candidate’s ability to comprehend the English Language.

Divided into 3 subsections: 1) Reading Comprehension: Answer the questions from a given passage. 2) Critical Reasoning: Small passages of 100 words followed by 5 options. and 3)Sentence Correction: Identifying and correcting grammatical and structural mistakes.

Ans. The exam is taken by students seeking admission into Management courses. The exam is designed to test the analytical, quantitative, writing, verbal, and reading skills in English for admission to a management program.

Ans. A candidate can apply Online via visiting the official website of GMAC. The registration for the exam can be done in three steps - creating a GMAT profile; scheduling the exam and paying for the exam.

Ques 6. What does Computer Adaptive Test mean?
Ans. A computer adaptive test is the one that automatically adapts to the candidate's ability level. It is a type of computer-based test in which the level of the question depends on the correctness of the answers given to the previous question by the candidate.
Ques 7. Is Calculator allowed?
Ans. No, there is no such provision.
Ques 8. In what language the exam is conducted?
Ans. The GMAT test is conducted in the English language only.
Ques 9. Is there any limit on attempts for the GMAT?
Ans. The test can be taken up to five times in a year but not more than 8 times in a lifetime and attempts must be at least 16 days apart.
Ques 10. What is the exam schedule?
Ans. The exam is conducted multiple times a year.
Ques 11. How long does it take to receive the result?
Ans. The complete GMAT scores are released approximately 20 days after the test day including the AWA Score.
Ques 12. Is there any penalty for not completing a section?
Ans. Yes. There is a penalty if the candidate runs out of time and is not able to complete the section. So candidates are always advised to focus on time management.
Ques 13. How long are GMAT marks valid?
Ans. The marks/grades are valid for 5 years.
