Overview

The Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU, Shimla), was set-up by the State Government in the year 2016, by an Act of the Legislature (Act 16 of 2016). Himachal Pradesh National Law Entrance Test is also known as HP NET/HP NLET is the competitive national-level law aptitude test conducted by Himachal Pradesh National Law University for admissions to 5 years Integrated LLB, LLM & P.hD Programs into HPNLU. 

Since Himachal Pradesh National Law University has become a participating institute of CLAT, the admissions are now done through CLAT merit score only and HP NET/HP NLET is not considered for entrance anymore. The CLAT exam is conducted annually for candidates who wish to join Law colleges. Log on to the official website to apply online or to check other important details.

CLAT is conducted by a permanent body which is known as The Consortium of NLUs and is created by the National Law Universities with a headquarters at NLSIU Bangalore. Earlier the exam was conducted by NLUs on a rotational basis. The consortium comprises an Executive Committee, the CLAT convenor of the current year & the following year and two co-opted Vice-Chancellors of NLUs.

The CLAT examination is conducted  Offline. The time duration of the exam is 2 hours (120 minutes) having 200 Objective type questions divided into 5 sections which are English, General Knowledge & Current Affairs, Elementary Mathematics, Legal Aptitude, and Logical Reasoning. The format of the examination is as follows:-

Document VerificationThe entrance for Himachal Pradesh National Law University is based on the marks of the CLAT exam but the Document Verification is done by HPNLU itself.

- Age Limit:

  • No age limit. Candidates are also advised to visit the website regarding the same.

- Educational Qualification:

  • Candidates must have qualified or are appearing in 10+2 from any recognized board.

  • Minimum marks in the qualifying exam must be 50% (45% marks for SC/ST category) in aggregate.

  • Candidates studying under Open Schooling System are not eligible for the exam.

Ques 1. What is the purpose of the CLAT exam?

Ans. CLAT is one of the most popular Law Entrance exams for admissions to top law schools in India consisting of 22 National Law Universities (NLUs) and 40 other private law colleges and universities across India in UG and PG law courses based on CLAT scores. Therefore, with just one law entrance exam, candidates get admission opportunities at prominent law schools across India.

Ques 2. Can a candidate fill the CLAT application form in offline mode?

Ans. No, candidates can fill CLAT application form in online mode only on the official website of the Consortium of NLUs.

Ques 3. Is there any age criteria to appear for CLAT?

Ans. No, there is no upper age criteria or a lower age limit to appear for the CLAT exam.

Ques 4. Is there any provision of fee exemption for any category?

Ans. No, there is no such provision for any category. The fee is 4000/- for General category candidates and 3500/- for Reserved category candidates.

Ques 5. Mention the modes of payment to pay the application fee?

Ans. The application fee can be paid online through Debit Card, Credit Card, or Net Banking and offline through bank challan.

Ques 6. Is there any editing that can be made in the application form after submission?

Ans. No changes can be made once the form is submitted.

Ques 7. What are the documents needed for the submission of the application?

Ans. A scanned photo, signature and domicile certificate must be uploaded while submitting the form.

Ques 8. What should be the size of the photograph, signature and domicile certificate for uploading?

Ans. The size of the scanned photograph should be 500kb; the size of the scanned signature should be 100kb and the size of the domicile certificate should be 2MB. Both photograph and signature files should be in jpeg format and the domicile certificate must be in pdf format.

Ques 9. Does an aspirant need to submit the hard copy of the CLAT application form to the consortium?

Ans. No hard copy of the CLAT application form needs to be sent to the CLAT Consortium office.

Ques 10. Does a candidate need to attest to the photo and signature before uploading them?

Ans. No, there is no need to attest to any document that needs to be uploaded at the time of filling the application form.

Ques 11. What can be the reasons for the cancellation of the CLAT application form?

Ans. CLAT application form can be rejected under the following circumstances:

  • Incomplete application form

  • Non-payment of application fee

  • Blur/ unclear uploaded photos or documents

Ques 12. How can a candidate apply for HPNLU, Shimla Counselling session?

Ans. After getting allotted for HPNLU through CLAT for the academic session, the candidates are instructed to obtain the application form from the HPNLU admission counter which gets submitted at the time of counseling.
