Indian Law Institute (ILI) was founded in 1956 primarily with the aim of promoting and conducting legal research.

The Indian Law Institute Common Admission Test, also known as ILI CAT, is a national level law exam conducted by the  Indian Law Institute, Delhi for Postgraduate course (LLM programme) offered by ILI itself. Indian Law Institute Common Admission Test (ILI CAT) Selection Procedure:

The admission is granted to the candidates after they qualify the following shortlisting round:-

  • Written Test

  • Viva Voce

Indian Law Institute Common Admission Test (ILI CAT) Exam Pattern:

The examination is conducted in Offline mode and both Objective as well as Subjective mode. The total time duration of the examination is 02 hours 30 minutes and has 144 questions divided into 03 Parts - Part 01, Part 02 and Part 03. The examination is conducted in the English Language only. The detailed exam pattern is as follows:-

Note:- There is a provision of Negative Marking. 0.25 marks from the total allotted mark to each question gets deducted for each wrong answer. There is no negative marking for Subjective type questions.

Viva-VoceThe details regarding this test is the following:

  • This part is for candidates who have cleared the Common Admission Test.

  • Candidates must get the minimum qualifying marks to get selected for this test.

  • The Viva Voce is conducted for 20 marks and is conducted at The Indian Law Institute, New Delhi.

Indian Law Institute Common Admission Test (ILI CAT) Eligibility:

- Age Limit:- 

  • The minimum age limit is 21 years to appear for the entrance exam.

  • Candidates are also advised to refer to the website regarding the same.

- Educational Qualification:

  • Candidates must have qualified LLB from any Institution/University recognized by Bar Council of India.

  • The minimum marks in the qualifying exam must be 50% aggregate (45% for SC/ST/PH and 40% for Kashmiri Migrants).

  • Candidates having a Law Degree with minimum 50% marks/equivalent grade from a Foreign country as per the Association of Indian University regulations are also eligible to apply.

Ques 1. How can a candidate apply for the ILI CAT exam?

Ans. The application form is available online at the official website of the Indian Law Institute (ILI) and the candidate can obtain it once the registration process is completed.

Ques 2. How can a candidate download the admit card?

Ans. The admit card is issued in both modes i.e. Online as well as Offline mode. Once the application submission procedure is done the admit card can be downloaded from the official website of the Indian Law Institute (ILI). The institute sends the admit cards to candidates at least 2-3 days before the exam by Post.

Ques 3. Mention the modes of payment to pay the application fee?

Ans. The fee can be paid in Online only through Net Banking, Credit Card/Debit Card.
