International Astronomy Olympiad is an internationally recognized annual astronomy scientific educating event for high school student (14 to 18 years old) which includes an intellectual competition between these students. It is one of the International Science Olympiads.

International Astronomy Olympiad (IAO) Conducting Body:

The EuroAsian Astronomical Society conducts the International Astronomy Olympiad for high school candidates who have interest in Astronomy and have qualified NSEA. The International Astronomy Olympiad is conducted once a year.

International Astronomy Olympiad (IAO) Important Dates:

International Astronomy Olympiad (IAO) Selection Procedure: Following are the stages for the exam:-

• National Standard Examination in Astronomy (NSEA)

• Indian National Astronomy Olympiad (INAO),

• Orientation cum Selection Camp (OCSC) in Astronomy

• Pre-departure Training Camp (PDT)

• International Olympiad in Astronomy and  Astrophysics (IOAA)

International Astronomy Olympiad (IAO) Exam Pattern: 

The examination is conducted in Offline mode. The total time duration is 01 hour 30 minutes (90 minutes)  for the exam. The exam is conducted in the English language. The questions are objective type. The examination is suitable for students studying through State Board/CBSE / ICSE / ISC. The detailed exam pattern is as follows:-

Training Camp: The Training Camp is usually for a duration of 25 days and comprises Discussions, Lectures, Planetarium visit, Field & Lab work. The Indian National Earth Science Olympiad (INESO) is held at the end of the Camp and the top four students represent India at the IESO. The selected students for the Training Camp are awarded 'Certificate of Participation'. The four students selected for the IESO are awarded Cash Prizes and 'Certificates of Merit'.

• The upper age limit to appear for the test is 18 years.

- Educational Criteria:

• Students studying in class 9, 10 and 11 are eligible for the test.

• OCI students are allowed to participate but only until the training camp. Only Indian nationals by birth are given the chance to be in Team India.
