Overview
The MICA (formerly known as Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad) conducts the MICA Admission Test (MICAT) examinations. The exam is conducted in two phases annually for admissions to its Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Communications) course. Applicants can appear in both the examinations and the better of the two MICAT Scores will be taken into consideration.

Selection Procedure:- There are three stages in the selection procedure-
Written Test
Second Round (GE and PI)
Exam Pattern:-
Written Test:- The written test will be a Computer Based Test (CBT) and will consist of 140 to 150 questions divided into 3 sections: Section-A(Psychometric Test), Section-B (Verbal Ability, Quantitative Ability, General Awareness, and Divergent-Convergent Reasoning) Section-C (Descriptive Test). The total time duration of the examination will be 165 minutes (2 hours and 45 minutes). The exam pattern is as follows:-

There is a provision of negative marking for the section-B. 0.25 marks will be deducted.
Second Round (GE and PI):-
Candidates shortlisted based on their performance in CAT/XAT/GMAT & MICAT shall appear for both Group Exercise (GE) & Personal Interview (PI) to complete the selection procedure.
Complete Selection Procedure:-
First shortlisting stage: The applicants need to qualify the Psychometric test separately for being eligible for selection.
Second Shortlisting stage: The applicants who qualify the psychometric test will be further shortlisted based on their relative CAT/XAT/GMAT score.
Third Shortlisting Stage:- The applicants who qualify in the previous stage will be further shortlisted based on their relative Section B of MICAT.
Fourth Shortlisting Stage:- Further, applicants who get at least the minimum cut-off marks in the Section-B of the MICAT Exam in *Normalized Scores, will be eligible for assessment of Section C of their MICAT Examination.
Fifth Shortlisting Stage:- The remaining shortlisted applicants will be called for GE and PI (The list of GE & PI applicants is prepared on the Composite Score formula of 50% MICAT scores and 50% CAT/XAT/GMAT score).

Ques 1. What is the pattern of MICAT?
Ans: MICAT includes 3 sections:
Section A: Psychometric Test

Ques 2. What is the psychometric test?
Ans: Psychometric tests are a standard and scientific process used to measure individuals' mental abilities and behavioral styles. Psychometric tests are outlined to measure candidates' appropriateness for a role based on the required personality traits and aptitude (or cognitive abilities).
Ques 3. What are the different stages of selection?
Ans: The selection method for PGDM-C 2019-21 has three steps:
Step 1: Each candidate has to appear for at least one of the 3 exams: CAT 2018, XAT 2019 and GMAT.
Step 2: MICA Admission Test (MICAT).
All candidates are evaluated based on MICAT, which includes 3 sections
Section A: Psychometric Test
Section B: (has 4 sub-sections) - Verbal ability, Quantitative ability, and General awareness; Data Interpretation, Divergent and Convergent, Thinking
Section C: Descriptive Test.
Step 3: All the applicants shortlisted based on their performance in CAT/XAT/GMAT & MICAT shall sit for both Group Exercise (GE) & Personal Interview (PI).
Ques 4. How are applicants shortlisted for the second stage (GE and PI rounds) of the selection method?
Ans: Preparation of Shortlist of the applicants for GE & PI
Section A of MICAT is a qualifier.
Those who pass the Psychometric, their relative achievement on CAT/XAT/GMAT will be counted. Applicants clearing a minimum cut-off in CAT /XAT total percentile/GMAT score shall be considered.
Applicants who pass based on the CAT/XAT/GMAT performance, their Section B of MICAT will be evaluated.
Applicants who pass based on relative performance subject to a minimum cut-off in *Normalized Scores of Section B of MICAT shall have their Section C of MICAT assessed. Each part will have its cut-off.
Those who qualify based on a, b, c and d (based on relative performance subject to a minimum cut-off in Normalized Scores of Section C of MICAT) shall be considered for shortlisting for GE and PI. Shortlisted applicants will be called for GE and PI at Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Delhi, Kolkata & Mumbai. (GE & PI applicant list is provided on the Composite Score formula of 50% CAT/XAT/GMAT and 50% MICAT scores).
Ques 5. Is there any weightage assigned to job experience for entry to the PGDM-C programme?
Ans: Yes, MICA prefers the incumbent candidates to have appropriate work experience.
Ques 6. How are placements at MICA?
Ans: The placements at MICA are remarkable. The average pay in MICA Placement 2019 has reached up to Rs.12.80 lakhs. The Institute has maintained a 100% campus placement record by top recruiters for its flagship Post Graduate Diploma in Management - Communications (PGDM-C).
Ques 7. What is the difference between MICAT 1 and MICAT 2?
Ans: MICAT 1 and MICAT 2 are the same exams which are administered by MICA. The Institute held the entrance exam twice a year which is recognized by the name of - MICAT 1 and MICAT 2. You can either enroll to appear once or can apply for both. Better of the two MICAT Scores is used for shortlisting.
Ques 8. Will MICA consider the score of CAT 2018 for MICAT 2020?
Ans: For MICAT 2020, CAT 2019 score will be considered and not 2018 score.
Ques 9. Approximately how many candidates are shortlisted for GE & PI?
Ans: Approximately 1/10th of the total number of applicants who appear in the two MICATs will be shortlisted for GE & PI based on CAT/XAT/ GMAT and the total MICAT Score.
