Overview
National Science Olympiad, also known as NSO, is an international level Science competition for students from class 1st to class 12th. The aim of the test is to nurture the Science talent of school students. NSO promotes Science talents from school to International level by recognizing the knowledge of students. The NSO is organized in two levels i.e. Level 1 and Level 2. Level 1 is for students from class 1 to class 12 whereas Level 2 is attempted by students who qualify level 1.
National Science Olympiad (NSO) Conducting Body:
The Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) conducts the National Science Olympiad to test and promote the knowledge of Science in school students. The NSO is one of the many olympiads conducted by the Science Olympiad Foundation such as NCO, IMO, IEO, IGKO, etc.

National Science Olympiad (NSO) Selection Procedure: Following are the stages to conduct the test:

Written Test
National Science Olympiad (NSO) Exam Pattern:
The examination is conducted in Offline mode at school hours. The total time duration is 01 hour (60 minutes) for the exam. The exam is conducted in the English language. The questions are objective type and there is no negative marking for incorrect answers. The examination is suitable for students studying through State Board/CBSE / ICSE / ISC. The detailed exam pattern is as follows:-

National Science Olympiad (NSO) Eligibility Criteria:
- Age Criteria:

There is no age limit to appear for the test.
- Educational Criteria:
-
Level 01- Students from class 1 to class 12 are eligible for the test provided their school must be registered with SOF.
-
Level 02- Top 5% class wise students OR Top 25 zone wise students OR 10 Toppers from each participating school scoring 50% marks OR students with highest marks in case of section-wise registration.

1 and 2 class students are not required to appear for the 2nd level test.

National Science Olympiad (NSO) FAQs:
Ques 1. How can a candidate apply for the NSO?
Ans. Candidates can apply offline only for the exam through their school provided their schools are registered with Science Olympiad Foundation. Individual participation of any student is not allowed for the exam.
Ques 2. I made a mistake while filling up the application form. Can I fill it again?
Ans. Once the application submission process is done and the fee is paid no changes can be made so candidates are advised to fill the form wisely,
Ques 3. Is registration mandatory to apply for the exam?
Ans. The school, whose students are desirous to appear for the test, must be registered with Science Olympiad Foundation. No individual registration is required.
Ques 4. Can a candidate edit the application form after submission?
Ans. No, it can't be done once the form is submitted and the application fee is paid.
Ques 5. Does NSO send the admit card to the communication address which is mentioned on the application form?
Ans. The admit cards are released 1 or 2 weeks prior to the test and can be downloaded from the official website of the Science Olympiad Foundation. Students must possess their admit card while appearing for the test.
Ques 6. Is there any percentage required to apply for the test?
Ans. No, there is no such requirement.
Ques 7. Is there negative marking in the exam?
Ans. There is no Negative marking.
Ques 8. Is NSO exam conducted online or offline?
Ans. The exam is conducted in Offline mode.
Ques 9. Which category is exempted from payment of examination fee?
Ans. There is no provision of fee exemption for any category
Ques 10. In what mode the application fee can be paid?
Ans. The application fee can be paid through Demand Draft only.
Ques 11. Does the NSO exam has sectional cut-offs?
Ans. No, there is no sectional cutoff in the exam.
Ques 12. How long does it take for results to be announced?
Ans. The results are announced on the official website within 08 weeks and can be downloaded online. The results are given to all the students in the form of 'Students Performance Reports'. Prizes such as Medals, Awards, Gifts, Certificates are also awarded to the students.
